Sadly, I found Melangell passed away on Tuesday morning. She was not quite well last week without any distinct symptoms. The earliest regular appointment I could get for her was for a few hours after her passing. Unfortunately, she took a sudden turn for the worst over the weekend but I failed to bag one of the emergency slots on Monday morning although it would have likely ended with pts by then.
She had just passed her 4th birthday some time last month.
Melangell 'Sweet Angel' (after the Welsh saint of animals) or in short, Mella, was one of a batch of widowed TEAS piggies who arrived here together with Manon and her daughter Maelona in October 2021 to try and bond with my various bereaved own piggies, none of which was willing to live with one of the others.
Initially, she bonded together with Manon and Maelona with Macsen (second attempt, as both Manon and Macsen were a bit on the fear-aggressive side) but when TEAS widower Cai failed to find favour with my difficult Brathlys and hooked up with just widowed Carys and Tegeirian, I decided to give Melangell a try with Brathlys - and it worked. They stayed together until Brathlys's death in 2023 although Mella would gently take over the leadership once she was fully grown (she was one of my larger girls) and Brathlys started showing her age.
However, Mella fell in love with the boar with a dream bum through the bars, so I introduced her and Brathlys to freshly widowed Llelo. He passed away, aged 5 years, in Spring 2024.

Mella shortly formed a widow's trio with Esme and Heilin when a first attempt at bonding her into young Bran's widows group failed as she and top sow Beti could not come to an agreement over the leadership.
However, after Heilin's passing in August 2024, with Beti starting to show her age, Mella took over the widows group without any issues after accepting Bran as the leader of the group.

She also stayed on with Bran as the youngest of the widows who I was hoping that she would see Bran out when Macsen returned all on his own without his Manon a few weeks ago - sadly this hasn't come to pass.
Beti is currently back with Bran while Esme has stayed on with Macsen who doesn't mind her squeezing in with him occasionally.

Melangell always retained her skittish side with unfamiliar noises, picking up and being handled but she was very good at getting on with other piggies - provided she got the lion share of any meal. She had a big figure to maintain, after all...
I am sure that Mella will be happy to catch up with her besties Llelo and Lissie (Brathlys) at the Rainbow Bridge.
But it is yet another familiar face and voice missing...
