My much loved 'Black Pearl' Mererid has sadly made her journey to the Rainbow Bridge in the very late evening hours after going into organ failure on Tuesday, just 9 days before her 8th birthday. She's beaten Tegan to be the Tribe piggy longest with me by just a few days.
Considering her background as a Rainbow Ark baby born to a highly pregnant newly rescued sow in very bad state, it is a bit of a miracle that she and her litter sister Morwenna (who is still with me) have been able to enjoy such a long life; especially as I lost the third sister of the Triplets, Myfina, way back over Christmas 2017.

Merry (rescue name Merryweather, Tribe name Mererid i.e. Margaret 'Pearl') and her sisters Myfina 'Myfi' (Flora) and Morwenna 'Menna' (Fauna) were born at TEAS on 24th February 2014. Between the three of them, they all had a different combination of two out of three breeds in play; Myfina even had a half-hearted aby rosette on top of a mix of smooth/American and teddy. Merry was the smooth/Aby mix and the one least affected her heritage of long standing indiscriminate inbreeding and high stress.

Morwenna (aby&teddy), Myfina (smooth&teddy with a hint of aby) and Mererid (smooth&aby)

She was also the naughtiest of the three lively sisters that managed to keep their step-daddy boar-cum nursery nurse Bedo having all his paws full for a goodly while while bounding after him or crying out for him to get them out of whatever scrape they'd gotten themselves into this time. For some reason, Mererid took a fancy to my slipper soles and was forever nibbling at the soles and tugging on any bows. I had to be extremely careful moving around and especially never stepping back blindly because she was very much a nosy 'underfoot' piggy.

Getting at my slippers even through the bars!
