Moleman came to live with us in the middle of March from a rescue who are working with his previous owner to take in all her animals over a period of time. I can't say any more than that unfortunately. He was around 2 years old and part of his front foot was missing after being bitten by a rat. This didn't stop him moving about and he had a lovely time running in his ball and organising all his food and treats into bowls every night.

Sadly on Wednesday night we noticed that he was bloated so took him to the vets on Thursday and he diagnosed fluid on his abdomen. He went in today for this to be aspirated and the vet managed to get lots of fluid off but under all of that was a mass full of necrotic tissue and from that she managed to draw a foul smelling dark liquid. The vet advised that this mass was draining him and he was actually really thin on his spine, the prognosis was not good and the fluid would most likely reappear in days. We therefore made the decision with the vet not to bring him round from the GA but to let him go while he was under. We didn't want him to suffer and thought it would not be fair to put him through the inevitable.

Night night lovely Moleman (I also called you Gentle Ben). You were only with us a few weeks but we loved you as if you had been here forever.

I should point out that he was a syrian hamster, forgot to mention that bit.

Goodnight Gentle Ben, although your time with Helen and her family was short you'll always live on in their hearts. Goodnight little one a special star in the sky tonight x

I am sorry that your little boy couldn't be with you any longer! RIP Moleman

So sorry Helen. Pleased he got to feel what it was like to be loved with you.

Sleep well little one

RIP Moleman

I'm really sorry Helen, big hugs.

I have taken on 2 new hammies in recent months and they grip us so quickly, i have bonded with them both so much more than i have with my little dwarf Poppy (had her since Oct) who is just unsociable. They are both quite elderly, so i dont anticipate them being around for a long time, but i will be devestated when they do go.

R.I.P little one x

Thank you everyone, it's horrible seeing his empty cage, we must sort it out, we only lost our little Robo Rowntree last week too and Porridge a few weeks before.
