I have been putting off writing this tribute to my lovely fuzzy Mr Ted for long enough. It's as though by not writing it I could pretend it wasn't real, but the sad fact is that we have lost our lovely boy and I owe it to him to give him a fitting tribute.
Mr Ted came to us from the Potteries GPR in April 2013. He came to us at a sad time as we knew we were shortly to lose Toffee (the beautiful girl in my avatar) and that this would leave her companion Mrs Fudge on her own. Given Mrs Fudge's dominant personality a vet friend suggested that a neutered boar would be best suited to bond with her. After Toffee passed to the Bridge Mr Ted masterfully managed his large and dominant cage mate Mrs Fudge. They bickered and squabbled like an old married couple but seldom fell out. It wasn't a match made in heaven but when old Mrs Fudge was helped to the Bridge last May Mr Ted tenderly washed her face and said his goodbyes. He thoroughly enjoyed a dating session last May when he chose himself the mischievous Mollie as his wife pig. They never fell out, never squabbled and lived very happily together.
Mr Ted was a gentle manly boar, with an impressive rumblestrut and his battenburg fuzzy butt. He was plagued by a chronic eye problem and survived a sudden onset pneumonia after Christmas. He was the perfect patient, happily tolerating eye drops and horrid antibiotics without protest. Sadly I found him one Sunday morning in real distress and passing blood. The emergency vet found a stone wedged in his urethra and we had to make the decision to help him to the Rainbow Bridge. He was only 4.
Popcorn free my gorgeous fuzzy face Mr Ted. You left us too soon, but we will not forget you. Mollie has so far rejected 4 handsome young contenders. You will be a hard act to follow.
