It took me a while to write this because I was deeply affected by Peanut's passing. Peanut was the herd leader, 5 years old, my first guinea pig I adopted from the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue.

We arrived in Denver from Los Angeles on Dec 27. I set up their cage the instant we got the keys to our place. The next day I notice a strange behavior from her so I made an appointment for the next day on Dec 29. The Vet gave a thorough check and didn't see any physical illness. I forgot what kind injection she was given but the vet said something in lines of "water pill" to flush her system, given metacam and critical care. I started syringe feeding Peanut. The next day she started eating hay, but then saw her isolate herself from the herd. No one in the herd picked on her. I called the Vet and the vet suggested to give her another day. I made another appointment for the Vet on Jan 3. That morning I woke up early to feed Peanut critical care and found her lifeless body. Aristotle was next to her.

I will always miss you baby girl. I'm still tearing up while writing this. Her final act as Herd Leader was getting the herd from Los Angeles to Denver safely. This past week have been rough for me, I never imagine in a thousand years that I would be affected like this.

I am so sorry for the loss of your gorgeous girl. You had an amazing bond by the sound of it, some piggies are that extra little bit special aren't they. She will stay in your heart forever. Massive hugs x x

Sleep well little lady

RIP Peanut

Thank You so much for the kind words. I still choke up when I think of her. I was hoping she would live to be 10 years old.

In Peanut's memory, please adopt a guinea pig from a shelter/rescue. Give a sweet Guinea Pig a second chance in having a forever home.

I know, we lost our oldest girl and one of the pair of first rescue piggies before Christmas. No pig will ever replace her, I thought she'd be with me forever, but I am glad of the times we shared. Love and loss are inseparable. We feel this pain when we lose them because of how much we loved them. Even though it hurts they a worth the heartache. Hold onto the good times, time helps heal. Hugs x

I am ever so sorry for the loss of your gorgeous girl. It may have been organ failure; guinea pigs can go downhill quite quickly without you being able to a finger on it. :(

However, I am sure that your herd now has got a very special guardian angel looking out for it!

RIP Peanut

What a special lovely girl, this is the day we pray will never come.

Thank you. I replay the situation over and over in my head, that I should of requested for a sooner appointment and requested xrays or something instead of listening to my new vet. I trusted her judgement because she knew my vet back in California by reputation since my old vet is considered the "Grandfather of Exotic Veterinary Medicine".

Thank you.

A quicker appointment may have helped, but if you never have been confronted with how quickly guinea pigs can go downhill and just how crucial syringe feeding is, it can really take you by surprise. It is much more difficult to get a same day emergency appointment in the US than here in Britain as you have got fewer vets. In defense of your current vet, he did throw the kitchen sink at Mr. King, as by that stage it was a race against time.

However, even with prompt and the most knowledgeable help, guinea pigs can die within hours from what Mr King had - some strains of URI are very virulent and can kill quickly despite prompt vet care. Many long term owners come up against this sooner or later. :(

I'm so sorry. Your video was lovely and it's obvious how much you loved her. ((HUGS)) to you.

Aside from the fact we are so close to them and love them, our pets are pure innocence. We can only remember good because that is all they know how to be.
Once the greiving is over with people passing, memories can be clouded by thoughts of bad memories etc.

I once had 2 sister piggies have heir Auras done,
expecting a mix of colours, they were surrounded in a huge white light!pure love and innocence.
Peanut was gorgeous

So sorry for your loss, Peanut looked simply gorgeous, Sweet Dreams little one X
