I’ve noticed tonight that baby pig is breathing quite fast again. It was only 2/3 months ago that she was on Zithromax for the same issue.Shes fine within herself and is still eating etc.I'm gonna get her in the vets tomorrow.Could it be an infection again? Her eye looks like it might have been weeping or wet as something is dried around it.

I think you’re doing the right thing getting her seen by the vets. Hope all goes well.

Update: The vet prescribed sulfratrim as I said how baby pig was very difficult taking banana flavoured Zithromax and could just imagine her with baytril. The vet said she sounded very crackly and I can notice her breathing even more today.Shes to take it for 2 weeks.

Hope she behaves herself taking the sulfatrim. Mine never object to it.
Have you an appointment before the 2 weeks are up? And have you considered possibly nebulising with a little saline to help clear her chest?

I don’t know anything about neubelisers. How do they work?No I haven’t got another appointment, I was just told to take her back if she gets any worse x

My vets usually see them a week after starting treatment to make sure it is working well.

Nebuliser just provide a bit of steam to help clear the chest. You can place a steaming bowl of water near the cage to help if you don’t have a nebuliser. I bought one after having 2 pigs with long term health issues, here is the link I just used a vial of saline in the chamber, out the pipe into a pet carrier and put the piggy in, covered the basket with towels to contain the steam vapour.

Thanks for the link.Maybe it would be worth investing in one of these x

Her breathing is still bad today and her eyes look a bit gunky. Is there anything I can do to help her breathing as I don’t have a nebuliser (think I’ll order one though).I'm gonna try the bowl of water next to the cage, is there anything else I can do?

The steam should help a bit. If not you can get a steam inhaler from boots and hold it over the nose in 5 second bursts. Is the same as the bowl but you can control where the steam goes better. Is your vet open today, if so you could ask about Bisolvon for any mucous and diuretics if there is fluid on the chest.

Thanks for your reply.Ive tried steam with a few drops of olbas oil and it doesn’t seem to have helped, she’s still breathing really fast.Vets 4 pets are open tomorrow so do you think she should be taken down to ask for some duretics etc. They didn’t mention any fluid etc, only that her breathing was crackly.I feel really sorry for her struggling with her breathing.

Sorry, I wasn't online yesterday, how is she now?
Her breathing is still very noticeable but she’s still got an appetite like usual. She slumps next to the food bowl and lifts her head in to grab a nugget.Think it’s cos she’s not got as much energy as normal.Should her breathing be better by now? She started the sulfatrim Friday evening x

Possibly but it can take a while for antibiotics to kick in. I would speak to the vet about diuretics if you can.

Baby pig has passed away. She was fine this morning but all of a sudden was lying on her side and couldn’t get up.I went straight to the vets but they told me she’d already passed away.I'm heartbroken
