Hello I have a 5 month old female guniea pig who eats wayy too fast because of her previous home she had to always eat before the others ate all of the food (they were only given pellets, she gets vegetables now.) and now it's constantly causing bloating. Does anyone have advice on how to get her to slow down and what should I give her for the bloating?

my guinea pig does the same, while I'm not sure about the bloating I can say as far as eating too fast, try investing in a foraging toy, this worked great for my guinea pig to slow him down, as well as give him a new activity to entertain him.

I'm sorry to hear your piggie may be suffering from bloat. If your guinea pig is bloated, I do think she needs to see a vet as medication such as emeprid may be needed. Bloat can be a serious condition if not treated.

You can give her gripe water and also massage your piggies stomach to try and get the gas moving and release it. Another thing I did when my piggie had bloat was use my vibrating massage pillow to loosen that gas build up by putting it under her stomach. Anything such as an electric toothbrush could help.

As far as the fast eating is concerned, I have no advice, as my piggies also eat fast. Hopefully someone else on the forum can offer you more advice. Best wishes, I hope your piggie is OK.

Please see a vet for the bloat.
It is a very serious condition and needs proper medical treatment. It is incredibly painful for piggies.
Gripe water can help with mild bloat cases (alongside vet prescribed meds) but it will not do anything for for acute bloat.

Please remove all veg from the diet during a bloat episode, switch to daily weight checks, step in with syringe feeding if needed.

Only after a bloat episode had been dealt with, and piggy is feeling better (be aware that bloat can come in waves) can you very slowly reintroduce veg.

Veg must always be introduced very slowly into the diet. Also take note if there are any veg which are triggers for your piggy and make sure she isn’t fed those.

Digestive Disorders: Not Eating - Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement)

In terms of eating fast, scatter feeding veg and pellets can help in many ways - it prevents any food hogging by her companion, and will also mean they have to move around so can’t eat quickly. It is also an excellent form of enrichment

Try a snuffle mat. basically a piece of cloth (usually fleece) and you have flaps, strands, folds and pockets ect you use to "hide" the veggies and pellets. making them sniff around and forage for their veggies. you can make one your self even if you're terrible at sewing...
