Hi there, on Saturday I bought two twelve week old female guinea pigs. I bought the allies tone of the litter and a slightly bigger girl. The. As a rule I give them an egg cup full of dry food each day but I have noticed that the bigger girl is eating more of it than the little one who is rather skinny, any ideas on what I should do?

My Lily and Lola are the same (except a little older), Lola is always taking the food- I usually resolve the problem, by, after I've spot cleaned (which is after I've put the food out). I give Lily a couple of bits of veg, by hand feeding- or just putting it in front of her, so she has some veg that SHE will definitely get. Then, after everything has been cleaned/topped up, I will take Lola out of the hutch for around 15 minutes lap time, she's obviously had rather a lot to eat by this time already, so it just prevents her eating Lily's portion of the food. It gives some time for Lily to get some food without having to try and budge Lola out the way! Seems to be working well so far. ;)

That's a brilliant idea and I will be sure to try that but the only issue I have is that there still quote anxious of me and the little girl won't take food from hand but the big girl will! Thanks so much x

Hope it works, but if you slowly position the food to the little piggie (just in front of her), she'll sniff it's there and will take advantage of the opportunity!

Yes it did! It took her a while because I took her big sister out and she wondered where she was but after about 15mins she at her veggies! Thank you so much x

Happy to help! There is method to my piggie madness!

Excellent, separate feeding is sometimes the best way. For pellets, try having two bowls so they can both eat uninterrupted. Feeding them plenty at this stage while they are growing is a good idea as well as weighing them regularly and keeping a record to make sure they are both healthy and growing well. It's also important to weigh regularly as weight loss is often an early indicator of illness in piggies before any other symptoms appear.

I feed a small portion of pellets twice daily in two separate bowls at least a body length spaced apart when it comes to my Nerys, so her current companion Nesta can get her fair share.

If I don't do this, Nerys will physically hog them all!

I love Nerys' bottom! I bet she is quite a pain when it comes to pellet sharing though :)

Do you know what the correct weight should be for 3 month old females? x

All pigs are different I gave a chunky and lean one from same litter thought one was pregnant but just bigger than the other!

Pecan is quite lean and Maple and Lucky are right chunky monkies. Rambo is a brick and Patch is a small fuzz ball!

As long as both have plenty of food they'll be fine but weigh daily if you're worried
