Hey!

i had a cuddle with my lovely little(wel..) Edie last night & noticed she had put on a bit of weight, she is in a big rabbit cage with another girl(same age) & goes out in the garden everyday in the run.. her diet is...

Parsley in the morning..

Cucumber
red peppers
carrots in the evening

then i change it the next night to

red peppers
celery
cabbage

the dry food i have a mixture for them which is guineapig nuggets from P@H & tesco's own guineapig food

Oh & has the odd bit of basil at night when its cuddle time :)

she should be about 9 months now & shes getting enough exercise.
I'm just getting worried about if she over weight or not.... the girl(grace) thats sharing her cage is fine, yeah shes got a belly BUT not as big as edies... HELP!

Sorry I have no idea but I hope you get your problem sorted out xxxxx

Oh has she been with another boar by any chance?

No she hasnt been with any boys.. separate cages....

she just always seems to be eating! lol

How much dry food do you give? Limiting the dry food, as well as increasing the exercise, is really the best way to control weight gain. At her age, she may yet be gaining weight on her way to her adult size, so some weight gain could be expected.

She is very unlikely to be overweight but it would be interesting to know her weight as a comparison with other pigs of a similar age.

ill weigh her tomorrow before she goes out in the run and let you all know, ill take the advice on giving hes less dry food and more exercise :) thankyou x

You can put a pig in a run but you can't make them walk, let alone run!!

If the run is on grass, you may as well give up from the start. In other cases most pigs can be persuaded to move by spreading their food all around the floor. It is surprising how much weight some of mine gained by serving their dinner on a plate, instead of throwing it all over the floor!

Yes. She is just a big pig. Sows of 3lb and above are not unusual, she still has some way to go!
