hi all,
Well Zanzabar went to the vet about 1-2 weeks ago as he had a lump which turned out to be a fatty lump, the vet advised cutting down on fattening veg and pellets but even doing that he has gotten bigger again,
I'm not sure if he is actually overweight though as he has always been a chunky pig but not this bad he also has laboured breathing
i have to weigh him tonight but will post weight as soon as i do
any suggestions or opinions great appreciated

He looks a healthy size - it would be obvious if he was severely overweight, but I do understand your concern. I know it's hard with having just moved, but getting back into weighing weekly should help you track the rate of his weight gain.

How old is Zanzie? How many pellets are you giving for him and Baker to share? Is his movement affected, is he fairly active or (to put it kindly) more sedentary?

The laboured breathing could be a concern, but if it was a more serious problem I suspect there would be weight loss (not gain) and other symptoms... It's not far off spring there, is it? Could it be a touch of "hayfever"?

thanks laura,
i will get back into weighing them straight away;)
Zanzabar is almost 10 months old, they were getting around 100gm between them each day but now are only getting 60 and arent even eating them all.
he is about moderately activre, basically if there isnt fresh food around he prefers to lounge around.
it may be hayfever but there is no wheeze or sneezing,i know it sounds horrible but he is breathing like an overweight man would:{
i have also cut the fattening veg right down and they arent getting quite as generous portions.
Baker appears to have slimmed off slightly where as Baker is getting bigger, although when i watch them Baker seems to eat the same amount of foodmallethead

My baby girl Edie is around 8 months now & she weighs 900 grams.. she just generally a fat pig BUT she is her normal self pop coring around and still loves running around the run :D

Some pigs are naturally larger/heavier/rounder than others, Zanzabar looks like a happy and healthy man to me. I too would be more worried at weight loss if it occured with the laboured breathing, perhaps it's just his old age or like CCC4 said a bit of the hayfever?

Looks happy and healthy to me, i was worrying about the same things recently but it turned out to be hay fever. My girls weights are the same so i wouldn't worry :)

he has made a right mes of your jeans

when did you last get his claws clipped?

:))
