Willy has had fatty eye slightly on both eyes since he became an adult abd ive read this is genetic/ cant be treated. Its not much and to the front inner corner of the eye. Recently the fatty eye has turned slightly pink rather than white and I was wondering if this was normal?

Many thanks

I have a guinea pig called Basil, he had fatty (or pea) eye in both eyes and both were pink. One of my mums pigs also has fatty eye in both eyes and it is also pink. I wouldn't worry :) unless it looked more red and blood shot.

Zuki's was white and now it's pink but the vet didn't say it was odd or anything and he seems fine so unless it changes, I'd just monitor it.

So Willy's 'fatty eye' got worse and took him to the vets to get it checked out. It was pink but then it started looking inflamed/red.
I couldn't get an appointment with Anne so I saw another vet (at the same practice) who was also quite knowledgeable. She dyed his eyes to check there was no ulcers etc but the pink parts didn't take up anything. She mentioned conjunctivitis but it wasn't weepy etc. She's advised it could be something environmental that has changed and caused a reaction e.g. new hay but I'm not sure as the timing doesn't match.
I will try and get a picture later for others to see what they think but its basically as though his lids on the inside have swollen red.

We've been given antibiotic drops to try and see if it helps. Willy is well in himself, he eats drinks runs around popcorns as usual just has manky eyes. Has anyone else had this?

I thought I would update you all on Willy as he has not been well.

The original drops we had (fucithalmic) were ok, helped a little bit. A week later his eyes flared up really bad (I had a mild panic as I thought they would have to remove one!) It was almost as if it happened over night.. part of his eye tissue was coming out of his eyes, particularly on one.

My usual vet (Anne) was not in, I took him in for an emergency appointment and saw a man I was worried about seeing (usually always see Anne). But he was great! Thankfully willy hasn't had his eyes removed :{ but the vet explained he's having an allergic reaction to something. When I first saw the vet I changed the hay to see if it would help and used a hay rack (in case it was him burrowing) but nothing improved.

We're still not sure what is causing the reaction. Willy was put onto new drops (steroids) which have made a dramatic difference - his eyes almost look normal except for when you move them and see slight inflammation in the tissue. He's been back for a check up and they want to keep him on them for a bit longer, I've also been given more vitamin c tablets for him as there's suspicion Willy's immune system is poor due to his bad start in life.

The man vet did mention how Willy's been to the vets a lot for such a young pig. It makes me feel awful but my boyfriend has reassured me it's not my fault! I'm just trying to think of what could possibly go wrong with Willy next .. He's had paralysed legs, malnutrition, teeth fallen out twice, infected ears and now gammy eyes in 1 1/2 years! But I don't regret anything and I knew this was a big possibility when I rescued him. Oh well. Fingers crossed he gets better and these drops aren't permanent.

Oh poor Willy going through so much. I really hope his eye improves. You did a wonderful thing rescuing him.

One thing I do know is that he is super happy and in love with his wife! Never seen anything like it.. they sleep together, share food, kisses.. and ive seen her licking his eyes when they're closed.
