Erin has had a fatty lump on her side since August causing her no problems.

The lump itself doesn't have much fur on it but I assumed this is because the lump is located on one of her crests where the fur is thinner.

Anyway, I have just noticed that the lump has been weeping slightly. The problem is, she had a small scab on there yesterday where she had obviously scratched it where the skin is exposed so I'm not sure if the weeping is from the scab (which is no longer there) or the lump itself.

She has a vet appointment on Monday afternoon and in the meantime I am just to keep the area clean but I am just wondering if anyone has any idea what's caused it to weep after all this time?

Erin isn't in any discomfort, it isn't sore when touched and it has only wept slightly but I would rather get it checked out.

Has it been diagnosed as a fatty lump? The reason I ask is that one of my guinea pigs had a lump on his side that the vet lanced, out of it came a thick pus, and i think the vet said it was a cyst. This too had no hair on it and it was itchy.
An abcess has a more fluid discharge and can be smelly.

The vet thought it was a fatty lump when first checked in August but was advised to keep an eye on it for any changes. It has been fine up until now.

She doesn't appear to scratch at it and the small amount of liquid didn't smell.

I'm wondering if it could be a cyst or something instead then?

Sounds as if it could be then, maybe your vet will lance it and clean it out. Keep me posted.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with anything like this, so I can't offer any advice. I just wanted to send well wishes for Erin. I hope the vet visit on Monday sheds some light on it. Please keep us updated x

The only time we had a piggie with an abscess it grew incredibly fast so hopefully that is not what this is. Bertie has also has fatty lumps but they don't weep. I have seen pictures of cysts on guinealynx which are weepy, might be worth a look at their medical info on lumps.

Hope the vet goes well xx

How is Erin today? X

Thank you :) Erin seems fine. Her lump hasn't wept again since yesterday which I guess is good. I have touched it (not squeezed it as I don't want to cause any harm) and she isn't in any discomfort. It feels a bit sticky from yesterday but that's all xx

Oh good, that's a relief. Hopefully the vet can give you more of an idea on Monday. Give her a little cuddle from us x

Erins lump has wept a tiny amount of blood overnight so I am assuming it is a cyst? :( She is fine in herself and tucked in to her breakfast.

I'm worried about it bursting before vet visit tomorrow :( Any advise what to do if this happens apart from to clean the area up? I'm worried. Will she be ok?

How was Erin's lump this morning? Did you have a look at the pictures of cysts on guinealynx? There is a surprising variety of these things...

Thank you. Erin's lump is pretty much the same. I have had a look at the guinea lynx photo's and it looks very similar to the cysts in the photo's.

She is booked in at the vets at 2.55pm x

Sending you & Erin all the best for this afternoon xx

Good luck for later x

Thank you. We are home. Erin had it drained and it was a cyst. Thankfully the contents was just clear fluid, no infection but she's had an antibiotic jab and been prescribed a course of yucky Baytril as a precaution. If it keeps growing back, it may need removing further down the line but I'll worry about that if it happens xx

Sounds positive :), I think I have read that these sometimes refill & need draining again now & then but tend not to be too much trouble over time.

It was as we thought then Claire, a cyst. Lets hope now she has had it drained it causes her no more problems. I find guinea pigs are lumpy bumpy animals.rolleyes

Me too and it can be such a worry. Must admit, I imagined the gunk that came out to look much worse but I guess we were lucky.

Poor girl looks like she has a small deflated balloon stuck to her side rolleyes

Poor little thing, glad there is no infection. Hope she feels better soon x
