At the beginning of this year i found i lump on one of my piggies, we went to the vet's & she did tests on him to make sure it wasn't cancer & the results came back as just a fatty lump, it never grew anymore (enough to have to have removed) and after he was fine.. yesterday my boyfriend cleaned them out & then last night i found a pee patch that was pinky/red colour i checked him out to check for cut's ect and he seems fine still eating and drinking he is not squeaking while peeing, he did av a few (red) veg the day before so i don't know if it is anything to do with that but i av noticed that his fatty lump and gone down in size does anyone think it has anything to do with that? i am taking him to the vets on Monday:help: i just wanted to know if anyone would know what is happing with him :ple:

Hi very much doubt that it is anything to do with the fatty lump. It will probably be a bladder problem. Have you seen any white powdery diposits on the Base of the cage ?

If it it is a bladder problem (stone or sludge), your vet will probably do an x-ray and if necessary operate.

When it is COMPLETeLY healed , it would be good practice to feed him good portions of watery veg like cucumber to keep the utinary tract well flushed

Tell us how he gets on.

it could be the veg but that tends to be more of a red/orange colour, whereas blood will be pink/red. sounds like it could be bladder related. they won't always squeak when urinating, especially at the start of a uti. i think you're right to go to the vets. they'll beable to make sure, have a good feel of his bladder and hopefully get him to urinate so they can see how he reacts and how the urine looks. a basic dipstick test can be done to check for the presence of blood. then going off this info, they may start him on a course of meds for the uti - commonly either septrin or maybocyl, with metacam alongside it for associated swelling/inflammation and discomfort :)

this is the first usual stage of treatment for a uti. if they can feel anything more, or symptoms don't improve on the course, then they will usually go for more tests, like xrays, sterile urine sample directly from the bladder, bloods, etc... but cross this bridge if you get to it. hopefully fingers crossed it's 'just' a uti that will respond to a course of treatment. just make sure the course length is sufficient and adequate metacam is given alongside it. if it is the start of a uti then it sounds like you have caught it early. :)

i'm not sure where the lump is but they can also check that more thoroughly and make sure it's not from there aswell.

let us know how you get on :)

Please have your boy checked by a vet for the beginnings of a urinary tract infection (UTI) and or other bladder issues that can present with similar symptoms at the beginning of the next week, especially if the coloured pees are not a one off. if necessary, ask for an x-ray with only very light sedation. I don't think that potential blood in the urine is connected to the fatty lump (which I assume is on the belly as many are?)

Depending on the diagnosis, we can then give you further advice and recommendations. Until then, please make sure that your boy has more watery veg in his diet (but not so much that he ends up with diarrhea). Cucumber, chopped celery, melon and fresh young dandelion are very good to help flush the bladder; some of these veg are mildly diuretic.

Thankyou everyone on youre comments and advice, just checked on him this morning and his wee as gone back to clear. Hes still not drinking half as much as he use to i have been force feeding him cranberry juice diluted and normal water and lots of cucumber

Does anyone know if it could still be a UTI infection?

My feeling is that it was the red food, but I would keep a close eye for any signs of blood in the wee, or discomfort when peeing. See the vet if you are at all worried.

it could be because not all blood will be visible, and there won't be blood with every wee. it does sound like it could well be the food, however because you have noticed a change with the lump aswell, maybe whilst getting that checked out, have them check for a possible uti at the same time. :)
