Hello!

My guinea pig Henry is 4 years old and has what I believe to be a fatty lump on his right side just above his belly and is quite central between his front and back legs. It has grown in size slightly and is now about 2-2.5cm in diameter. It doesn't seem attached as you put your fingers around and doesn't cause him any distress when you touch it. It isn't oozing and when you move the fur back you can just see his skin underneath - mainly pink with swirls of white. the swirls of white however have now made me think it could be an abscess? I have booked a vet trip for him later this month (he is going in with my cat for her annual injections) but I was just wondering what people's opinions on this was. I will also try and upload a photo of the lump later.

Thank you for your help.
x

If you suspect an abscess is there any way you could get him seen sooner? as he would need antibiotics. If it is a fatty lump they are usually harmless but you are right to get it checked to rule out anything more serious. Is he eating ok? and maintaining weight?

Thanks for getting back to me. I think it is a fatty lump as the skin isn't broken it was just the swirls of whiteness in the skin that concerned me but as he tri colour I have then thought it could be his skin pigmentation? Yes he is maintaining weight and eating well, I might try and get him in sooner then. If it was an abscess would it be obvious it was one? Thanks again x

Also just re called vets he is going tonight for a check up! Better to be safe - I will let you know how I get on x

That's brilliant, I think an abscess would be growing a lot quicker but at least seeing the vet sooner will give you peace of mind.

That was my thoughts too. Yes I was starting to have a panic so peace of mind would be welcomed . Fingers crossed its just a fatty lump x
