While stroking Amina I felt a lump on her back. The vet said it was fat and drained it. Strangely Amina did not seem to be in any pain and did not flinch. The vet showed the sample and it was like grease. She said guinea pigs often have this and it is nothing to worry about. The thing is,Amina feels all sqidgey and fatty all over not like her friends who are firm to touch. I do not know if it is her breed, I think she is a rex/texel cross. Is this normal though? She hates me touching her but I assumed it was because she had never been handled. Maybe the lumps make it uncomfortable? She is fine when her friends are with her just not me!

Fatty lumps are normal in older pigs. They are usually not painful. I would be surprised if she had them all over though. Do you know her history if she is a rescue or even if shes not. As i think sometimes if a sow has had a few litters they can get a bit more flabby skin if you want to put it that way. I have a sow who had a pet shop pregnancy a few years ago and shes a bit flabby.

Thank you. She has never been pregnant. I got her from somebody on the forum. Her fingers curl inwards too which is unusal.

Hiya

If the lump was able to be drained it sounds like a sebaceous cyst - their content is usually a grey greasy substance and can be emptied fairly easily, they are not connected to being overweight.

Just like people, all piggies are different - most are firm and solid, a few are a bit more squishy. I have Sorrel who is a big, wobbly madam, a bit of a pudding really. Her daughter is slim (well she does have a bit of a double chin LOL) in comparison - they have exactly the same food/lifestyle and yet completely different bodies.

If the way she feels is different from how she would normally feel then this may be a reason to have a check up - but if it is normal for her then it shouldn't be a concern.

Oh thanks so much. I guess it is just her little way. She really does look like a sheep. Her little legs and fluffy hair! I will not worry now. Thanks.
