What is your pigs favourite meadow hay?

We mainly use HayBox meadow hay and sometimes add in some Happy Hay Co meadow hay.

Any other recommendations? Especially very soft bedding hay :)

Natures Own 'Sweet Green Hay' and 'Devon Meadow Hay' are very good too. Free postage if you spend over £19.95.

We also buy bales of farm hay from an equine supplier.

I’d love to buy a basic meadow hay bale. They always look really nice.

The ings hay from Hay and Straw is nice but the plastic bags kept turning up damaged when we ordered unfortunately so had to stop using that.

My lot used to love their haybox meadow (they still get haybox Timothy).

I have found a farm and am now buying bales from them as they are much cheaper for a larger amount but are still brilliant quality.

Envious of your farm bales!

Perry likes the Hay Box meadow but doesn’t love it. Lola seems to really like it so I’ll stick with it for the main hay and try another to mix with it.

There’s lots more companies now. Just came across one called Box Of Hay which looks good so might try that next.

Currently also working through a box of Small Pet Select timothy hay which they like.

And this is why we have no money!

We mix and match a bale from our local farm shop(bit spiky for my liking) with Natures own hays, the Devon meadow and sweet green hay. The natures own is a bit short this time.
Our boys ❤️ love soft cut Timothy from haybox which is our treat hay.

Look out your local equine supplier or farm. We live in Salford and drive 20 mins to get to ours. Obviously, it will depend on your access to a car too.😃

Many wheeks for the hay from timothy hay.co.uk. I normally get the soft timothy and the smell when I open the box is devine even in winter. My girls always dive into the hay piles and will do even if there is veggies out for them.

I get timothy hay from hay box, but vale bale meadow hay from farm and pet place. It's really cheap and nice and soft so I use lots in the winter for bedding. I just started a new bag and Tico and Cookie inform me that it is DELICIOUS, so I'm using less timothy hay now too!

No car so can’t collect any bales from anywhere.

Thanks for the recommendations :)

Hay box used to go down a treat with our girls

Has anyone noticed any difference in the hay box recently?
I just got a new batch and none of my lot will touch it, really odd, as I think that's the first time they have ever been unanimous aabojut anything! The last lot of hay started to go mouldy, ( I don't blame the hay for that as my house is very damp and everything goes mouldy) but this is brand new just arrived. It doesn't smell as nice as it sometimes does but seems fine otherwise, but not according to the recipients.

Our last lot wasn’t as good as usual either but still ok. Goes a bit flat when in the cage but luckily Perry’s large snout doubles as a hay scoop so he can still make burrows! Lol.

Further to Hay Box and Box Of Hay, i found Box Full Of Hay and Bale In A Box! :)) Amused me slightly to wonder what a new company would have left to choose!

My girls like haybox meadow hay and Timothy blend well they poo in the meadow them eat the Timothy lol

I get bales from a farm, so nothing branded,
I haven't experimented with meadow as id never go back to buying it from a bag again personally so my pigs have to eat that but they like it just fine

I do keep a bag of something to mix in usually oat hay from pets at home or on rare occasion ill get oxbow orchard

Ordered some meadow hay from Box of Hay which should hopefully come tomorrow. I’ll update what it’s like and whether the piggies approve. It says it’s organic and it looks like good nesting hay on the website so hoping it’ll be good :)

Mine have Alpaca approved hay which I buy in farm bales from the Alpaca Rescue down the road. If it's good enough for Alpacas then it's good enough for my piggies!
Just seen you live in Dorset. My family live about half an hour from you. Do you mind me asking which vet you use? Hoping to one day move back but not having access to a good vets concerns us. My Mum had rabbits and guinea pigs for a long time but the local vets didn’t seem too great unfortunately.

The Box Of hay meadow hay came today. The box is much smaller than the Hay Box’s but we weighed it and it did indeed have approx 7kg of hay stuffed in there. It’s really lovely quality. Too expensive for us to use as the main hay but nice to mix into other hays. Perry wheeked when the box was opened. He’s more a timothy hay fan than meadow but he does like it. Lola loves it. Not sure how to post a pic but if I work it out I’ll post one :)

It's definitely good hay. Out of interest, who did they use as a courier?

Ah, never mind then, lol. Pity, because their timothy was great, I just can't justify the price if it's DPD.
Just realised the price includes shipping so not quite as expensive as it first appears - £20 for approx 7kg hay with free shipping dpd.

If you buy more the price goes down. Cheapest £19 per 7kg box if on subscription.

It's DPD that's the problem, not Box of Hay. If they were using anyone but DPD I'd switch.

Forgot to say that we also got our Hay Box delivery yesterday. Really nice quality meadow hay this time. The price has gone up again recently so 15kg is just over £33 now on subscription.
