Favourite Treats

Hi everyone,

As I'm new to keeping guinea pigs, I thought I'd ask what your guinea pigs' favourite treats are?

Really want to keep their diet interesting

Here is a list of what veg they can all eat; that will give you some scope for experimentation! I find fresh or dried herbs really good to use as treats as most piggies love them!

Cucumber! you can not go wrong with that
Grass
Dandelions
Tomatoes
Carrot tops

I like to give my Treats in fun ways too;
Mine like it when i take boxes, paper bags or Loo Rolls, and turn them in to hay and treat surprised.

Loo Rolls, i cut holes in them add veg/fruit and stuff with hay.

Paper bags, stuffed with hay and Veg/ Fruit. They will go rooting through all the hay till they find the veg then just lay out in the hay munching it.

Boxes, Depending on how big, they go the same way as the loo rolls (bigger boxes get turned in to forts with Veg/Fruit hidden through out)

I get treats from ZooPlus, they like them and it keeps them busy on a rainy day.

Mine have sweetcorn now and again for a treat, they love it!

Mine love cucumber, cucumber and more cucumber! They just can't get enough of it!

I think my little Machu is a bit of an oddball, because while the Internet seems to tell me that every guinea pig in existence goes mad for cucumber, he is seriously unbothered. {:| He'll eat it if there's nothing better on offer, but given in a bunch of better veggies, he'll completely ignore it.

He looooves bell pepper, especially the yellow kind. Blueberries and strawberries are a top favourite, but obviously not very often since they're high in sugar (and also quite expensive out of season).

Ditto my boar loves dandelion leaves (washed with cold water first) from my garden, cucumber,apple,orange,cabbage,brocoli,cauliflower leaves,carrots,sticky bud plant, bell peppers green mainly, and many more :-D

Cucumber, grass (fed daily), fresh herbs, dandelion, carrot tops, melon and a lot more. I would experiment with different foods as some foods guineas adore whereas others seem to hate it! Have fun experimenting and seeing your piggies dig in! |)

I recently tried our piggies on scrunched up small paper bags stuffed with hay, they loved them! They were throwing them up in the air and everything |)
