Hello

I just wanted to post a wee reminder to people to check if they have a local feed merchant. I am lucky there is one nearby and purchasing my supplies there saves me a small fortune. For example today I got a full bale of hay for £5.50, a giant bag of shavings for £5.50, a 20kg bag of readigrass for £11, big bag of barley rings for £8 plus water bottles etc for less.

As everything is designed for horses you do need to have storage space but if you do the saving can be enormous :). Many will also deliver :)

I would try feed merchant or equestrian supplies x

Failing that contact your local riding school and ask where they get their supplies from.

Lol! I only know because I used to have a horse, to be honest if I hadn't been in that world I would never have thought of going there for small animal stuff.

It's like...horses and guineapigs go together? no WAY! :) What sorta horse did you have, I love horses :) x

I had a 16.2HH throughbred mare who I could hardly ever ride due to her horrendous behaviour!

I must admit I want to give my pigs more hay, I think I will be getting a big bag to mix with my good hay. What is the quality like?

I am happy with the quality. It sells piggy and rabbit food too for less than it costs online.

I too recommend people to do this. You'll be surprised quite how many feed stores there are! I stock up about once every couple of months with 2 bags of Auboise-type bedding (it's called Snowflake Softflake) at £5.45 a bag, a bale of hay at £5.70, a small pack of readigrass at £3.65 and Gerry gerbil food at £1.95 each. If I went to P@H to get this stuff (which I used to do many years ago), I'd be looking at spending a lot more for less quality.

The hay I get is fresh and has been well-stored so it's still green and the bedding lasts ages despite my pigs being free-range in the shed!

Snowflake Softflake

I am looking for an alternative to Megazorb for my boys' cage. I have googled Snowflake Softflake but am getting no results. Does it have another name?

Sorry, it's Softchip not Softflake. :red

I used to use Megazorb until my feed store stopped doing it, then Auboise was up to £9 a bale so I decided to use this. It's exactly the same a Auboise but smells a bit more woody.

This is the place that I go to, if there is something in particular you are looking for in the Glasgow area they are well worth contacting. If they do not have a particular item in stock they may be able to order it:

Thank for the advice. Iv found a local place that will deliver. I keep my pigs on wood shavings at the minute would it be better if I moved them to either of these?
Easi bed
Laysoft
Bedmax

Can get a bale of hay for £3.50 and readigrass from £2.50. I'm going to run out of shavings soon so I may put an order in with them for a few things.

Thank you again for the tip

Glad it has been usefull, I just find it saves me a lot of money allowing me to treat the piggies more often.
