I'm new to piggie ownership (well guinea's anyway). Have just got two 10 week old boys settling in. I have some of the food they were being fed, which is a mix, but wondered if they would be better switching to pellets?

They have ad-lib hay and will also get plenty of fresh fruit/veg. They already have a salt and separate mineral blocks, as well as a nibble stick (with treats in). I'm going to get them some willow to nibble, is there anything else that they need - or likely to like?

Personally, you probably doing more harm than good with a salt and mineral lick, they dont need it they get all their vitamins and minerals from their fresh greens and hay.

If your going to change, then do it gradually as sometimes they can get an upset tummy if you change quickly, gradually start mixing pellets into the mix and lessen the mix to more pellets over a few weeks period, i used a mix for years but i think that pellets seem to be a better option as they work the teeth more, and they cant pick and choose which bits they want to eat, and which they dont.

willow is a good treat, all my girls like those id steer clear from the treat sticks too, full of little seeds and many have sugar in them which isnt good or healthy for piggies.

Salt and mineral blocks are a bit of a no-no :)

Swiching to pellets has to be done a little at a time, often mixed in with their normal feed. Pellets save them being picky and aking out the bits they like only :)

As for the treats - my lot, and a few here on the forum tend to give them dandelion, nettle and/or mint sticks bought from P@H
