My guinea pig was sick and had to be fed with an oral syringe. She is better now but still refuses to eat her pellets. She will eat her hay and her veggies and even guinea pig treats but still wants to be fed her crushed hay and pellets mixed with puréed veggies, this has been going on for about 4 months my vet says she is just spoiled so any advice on getting her back to normal eating?

Hi and welcome!

What was her problem? Dental guinea pigs are notoriously bad with starting to eat on their own again.

You could try to ease her over by feeding a mix of mushed pellets in a bowl with increasingly more full pellets and perhaps a bit of grated veg mixed in and only use syringing as a special treat.

Ps: With members from all around the world, we find it extremely helpful if you added your country, state or (for the UK), your county/city, so we can always give you the best advice and recommendations for your part of the world straight away. My guinea pig is a 4 year old female. She was diagnosed with scurvy and given liquid vitamin c and metacam. She is no longer on metacam and is doing great other then not eating her dry pellets. I will try doing the mixture in her bowl and see if she will eat it that way. Thanks for your quick reply

Would you also consider adding vitamin C to the pellets? We have got a thread about sourcing it at the top of our Caring for an Ill Piggy section.
You can also find out about veg high in vitamin C in our edible foods list at the top of our food section.

I do add vitamin C to her food and make sure that she eats plenty of veggies high in C as well. She has now recovered and I am making sure it won't happen again. My main concern is getting her back to eating normally again
