Hi guys. As some of you know I've had my piggies for just over a week and since last Tuesday they have been in separate cages because jasmine has had Pneumonia. I've noticed over the days that Jasmine eats like a pig and Belle doesn't. i'm concerned that when I put them back in the cage together Belle will not get as much food as she ought to because Jasmine will eat it all. she eats like a pig. I am going to put two food bowls in there but again unless I have a camera on them 24/7 I'm not going to know for sure that Belle is eating and getting her fair share. Any suggestions?

It is usual that the more dominant pig gets to the food bowl first etc. I tend to stick around at food times and watch to make sure they are all eating (not eating is first sign of illness), if one isnt getting enough, I seperate them and give seperately. There usually isnt any need and the dominant one tends to grab their favourite leaving the other one to take whatever! I wouldnt worry unless she is being bullied and not being allowed to the food bowl. Two bowls can be a good idea as she cant eat from 2 at the same time ;D

Maybe i need to weigh Belle before I put her back in the cage with Jasmine. I'm blind so watching who eats what could be difficult especially as Belle is quite timid and will very rarely come out of the house they hide in while I'm there. Keeping an eye on her weight for a while might give me some clues. Belle seems a little younger anyway and maybe that's why she's eating les. It could be of course that she's missing Jasmine and may eat better when she's back. who knows? Just wanted some ammunition before I put them back together again. Thanks. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Weighing is a good idea anyway as it will quickly alert you if something is wrong. I weigh all mine once a week, at the same time before their evening veggies and I keep a diary of their weights on a word document; so yes, that would be a good idea :) I have one poorly pig at the moment and I am weighing him every evening. If you are concerned, you could feed her seperately but it is unusual with just two piggies that one would bully the other to that extent.
