Well I am over the moon, I brought my piggies in last night for cuddles, hubby had one I had the other and they were purring away quite contented and low and behold they start chomping carrot and pepper on our laps. aww I can't believe how attached I am getting.

Anyhow. First question (told there would be lots) in the morning (8am) for the last two days I am giving them their dried food plus another bowl of mixed veggies. Then in the evening (5/6pm) I top up their dried food. Is this right? Should I be giving them two bowls in the morning or should it just be veggies and then say lunchtime at the dry bowl? and then in the evening is it ok just to top up the dry and remove whats left of the veggies?

The second question. Since my last thread I am now chopping veggies into quarters and halves but I'm not quite sure if I am giving them enough. I mean yesterday they did leave a couple of bits of pepper and there was some dried food left.

This is a picture of the veggies, its got carrot, tomato and peppers in with some corrander in to for 'seasoning'. is the food ok (i do vary it for them) and is the amount ok or shall I just keep an eye on the bowl and see if it has been scoffed by lunch, if so give them some more - I don't want fat piggies.

I'e never used photo bucket before so here goes:-

That looks okay to me.

I give a bit bowl of pellets (but I have six) and only top it up once a day. They sometimes finish it sometimes dont. Measure out 100g for your two and that should be enough. Yours are babies right? if they finish it do give more until they are fuly grown but then 100g a day between them should be enough.

I give veggies twice a day once in the morning an once in the evening. But some people only do it once.

Variety is the key with your piggies veggies as too much of one thing isn't good.

Then hay ALL the time.

Aww congratulations on your new piggies- they are so lovable aren't they?! I've only had my boys for 6 weeks but I can't and wouldn't want to remember what life was like before them.

Obviously I'm no expert as I said, I'm a new piggy slave but I can tell you what I do.

Hay: Unlimited

Dried Food: We give Burgess Excel and usually just top it up when needed which is normally in the morning so they will get through a bowl of about 100g between them in 24hours. If it does get empty before then, we do top it up as they are only 16 weeks old and still growing.

Veggies: Our boys have veg 2 times a day. They have a good handful at breakfast between them and then the same in the evenings. We split the handful into 2 small bowls so that they get one each as they aren't very good at sharing veggies (they're fine with the dry food and hay but not the good stuff- lol!) We have found that the boys are quite fussy when it comes to how their food is chooped eg, Bailey will only eat carrot if it is diced up but Guinness likes batons. They're so spoilt, lol! We buy a selection of veggies each week (whatever is on offer usually) and come up with a weekly menu so that the food is alternated on different days, giving them variety.

Also just wanted to say if you're worried they aren't getting enough food, you can weigh them- it's a good idea with baby piggies (from what I've learnt on here!) I love weighing my boys now and watching them pile on the oz's it makes me feel I'm doing things right. Just use the kitchen scales and a bowl or something you don't use lined with a towel. I wiegh my boys weekly at the moment as they're only babies and I usually do it on a Saturday morning before breakfast (same time each week). As a guide they should put on about 1- 1.5oz a week.

HTH and sorry for rambling on, it's the first time I've felt I can be of some help to somebody on here as oppose to being the one asking all the questions! x

so how I am doing it is ok, just measure the dried in the mornings to 100g which is for the day but make sure they have more veggies if it's empty by 5pm. oh an no more dry till the following day.

for piggies under 8 months i give unlimited pellets, once they reach 8 months they get 30-50 gm's a day per pig,
Hay of course is unlimited, veg vastly depends on the indidiual piggies, most of mine finish everything in there bowls but others don't,i also have one boy who gains weight very easily so his portions are slightly smaller.

My pairs get this

so as you can see there is no strict amount on veg just a rough guide,i do find because piggies are grazers they love to have two veg meals rather than one, under 8 months I'm not careful with quantitys of much but over that age i keep a good eye on pellets, fatty veg such as corn, carrot & apple,i wouldnt worry to much you will get to know your piggies and there individual needs xxxxxx

Brilliant, thank you guys ever so much. I'll stick to 50g dry and bowl of veggies twice a day then.

Thanks again. Boy am I glad you guys are here.
