Hi, I was just wondering if it's better to feed my guinea pigs half their veggies in the morning and half in the evening instead of all in one go. I am also wondering if I should give them half their pellets in the morning and half in the evening as well? Thanks

Either way is absolutely fine. Hay is the most important part of their diet so as long as that is constantly available, how you feed veg and pellets doesn’t really matter.

I feed some veg and nuggets in the morning early and when I get home the other half, they in a routine and know what happens when

I feed half veg and pellets in morning and half at dinner time - I just think it breaks up their day for them! 🤣. I’m thinking of changing a bit tho as it’s a bit of a rush, so I’m thinking a romane leaf each in am and then the other chopped veg at tea time, when I’ve more time to chop it up.

I sprinkle the half pellets around the cage to give them something to do.

Mine usually get pellets and hay in the morning around 9am, then veg and hay top up in the evening around 7ish. xx

I chop up veg in the evening and stick half in Tupperware for the morning 👍

Actually! Who am I trying to kid! Since they have started coming over to me squeaking, with their wee lips and noses pointing at me, wee furry cute wee lumps of hairiness- my heart melts! I feed them veg every time I pass their pen now! There! I’ve said it! My piggies are controlling me!

I feel better now that’s out in the open! 🤣🤣

Bann and Camowen get fed twice a day, Comet and Blitzen generally got fed once a day (the veg I mean). I had Comet and Blitzen from fairly young though so that was easier to set in their routine, the goblins definitely grew up getting fed twice a day. Either way has worked fine tbh, except I keep oversleeping in the morning and the goblins don't make noise til they hear me wake up, so they're terrible alarm clocks and always get breakfast late.

My piggies get fed veggies once a day ... unless someone doles snacks in the middle of the day ... but mostly once a day. If they beg really cutely, though ... and we're stealing their lettuce for a salad ... they're willing to share, kind-of.
Pellets get measured at dinner time, but they may be doled at any point, often split into multiple times.
Hay gets added to the cage at any pass ... so they get a fresh fluff in addition to the carpet of hay already in the cage, which has been stepped on, so "It's unacceptable! Fresh is required! Wheeek! We're starving!" "We know you just walked through, but you clearly misremember giving us hay. We are starving ... dole the other one!"

My husband used to be like this when we had just the boys. At one point, their cage was next to the fridge, but separated by a wall. Every time the fridge opened…WHEEK! Well, Toffee would and Fudge would stand their puppy eyed and demanding! I did tell him to stop and eventually he did 🤣🤣

My routine is that in the morning they get lettuce, water top up (the boys), hay fluff and topup. In the afternoon, they get their pellets and the rest of their veg. I do a quick pick out of unwanted hay and put more in. Water is also changed.

It depends what works for you. If you’re happy feeding twice then keep with it. They get used to adjustments very quickly. Didn’t you know they can tell the time?! 🤔

Any closer - this pair would be in the fridge 🤣
