Hi All,

I'm sure this has been answered a gazillion times but can I get some advice on feeding please. I'm trying to make sure I give the right amount of veg and vary it correctly but everything I look at is either vague, contradicts each other or is mega complicated. I've been feeding cabbage and grapes often as they love them and the chart I had said they were dailies but now it seems that other charts say they're not!? I found some charts but tbh they make my brain hurt!

Thanks
Hannah

It can be confusing!

Cabbage (and any brassica - broccoli etc) is not a daily food. It can cause bloating. Once a week at most. I feed spring greens which are milder.
Grapes and fruit in general, carrots and tomatoes are treats and only to be fed very occasionally.

Hay needs to be the biggest part of their diet, around 85% of their daily food intake.
Pellets and veg is supplementary -
Pellets is one tablespoon per pig per day.
Veg is around a cup/50g per day. Ensure high Vit c veggies such as peppers or coriander are given daily

Use this guide and you won’t go wrong! The sample plate is what I base my daily veg intake for my piggies on. I then rotate in and out other veggies and herbs, but always making sure high calcium veg such as parsley, kale, spinach etc is limited.

We feed ours this roughly

Morning:
Cucumber -1.5 cm x 2cm chunks (twice)
Celery - 1 stick between 3 chopped up small
1/6th of Red/Green/Yellow Bell Pepper (de-seeded)

Evening:
Cucumber 1.5 cm x 2cm chunks (twice)
Two Little Gem Lettuce leaves or 10 sprigs Coriander. Twice a week we will swap in cabbage or parsley

We also add in to the above diet - carrot, sweet potato, celery leaves, green beans, sprout, and a few other things occasionally a week

Before I got my first pair of boars 6 years ago like you I found information on the internet so conflicting. Definitely recommend the forum guide and advice as above. 😁

Thank you so much! I will go get spring greens tomorrow! They LOVE red peppers! Does the colour make a difference, I read on one site that green and yellow are daily but red should be once a week?

I’ve never heard that....
I believe the only difference is that different colours contain different levels of vit c. I usually have yellow or red in.
