I've noticed one of my girls is dragging her front leg around with her. I thought she had been quiet today, caught her sleeping outside of her hidey too (which she never does). I've only just noticed the limp though :( I'm worried about her. I took her out for a cuddle, normally she wriggles and eventually settles, but she just puffed herself up and leaned into me. I'm going to ring the vets first thing tomorrow morning. I feel so guilty :(

This is not your fault! Don't worry, the vet should sort this out for you. Please keep us updated. Hopefully she'll be just fine :)

Thankyou for your kind words. I still feel awful, I can't help but feel that way when I see her trying to get about. I'm relieved that she still has a healthy apetite and is packing away her evening veg with great delight.

I can see how watching that would be hard :( but just remember that it's not your fault at all. Good for you for deciding to take her to the vet! That's great that other than the leg she sounds like she's feeling fine!:)

Don't worry she's probably just sprained it popcorning too much. More often than not they're looking much better in the morning and starting to put her weight back on it after some rest, if she's still struggling then some painkillers from the vet should do the trick. I've had two piggies do the same thing! Poppy slipped over in her food bowl while charging round her house.

Mine will drag her back legs from time to time, but the vet didn't do a darn thing! They thought it better to have her put down! I waited and it cleared up in a couple of days, I massaged her pads and trimmed her nails to help her along. Seemed to help. Good luck with your piggy! Keep us posted!

Woke up this morning to see her pottering about foraging for lost veggies. She seems to be putting some weight on her leg, though not a great deal. She's even starting to boss the other two around, resulting a rather loud squeak from Biscuit who was sitting in the hay box where Jammy (injured pig) wanted to be:<>. So I think she's feeling slightly better, as all she did last night was eat and hardly move from one spot. I've got a vets appointment at 4:30 today as I'd like her leg checked anyway and because she's still in discomfort may look at some painkillers for her. Will post again after vets visit.

Thankyou for all your kind words. I just felt I'd been neglecting the girls a little because the rescued boys are taking up quite some attention getting them back to strength. The girls have always been healthy and happy, so when Jammy started limping I felt I should have noticed something off with her sooner. :(

Just back from the vets. She had a good look over Jammy. She seems to think it is nothing too serious, as she can't feel anything. Spent quite awhile manipulating her leg, making doubly sure. She thinks it is most likely soft tissue damage, so she has given me some painkillers (metacam) and said if the limping doesn't improve/gets worse to come back in for another examination.

Upon being placed back in their cage they all ran for the same hidey only for Jammy to squeal and shove Dodger and Biscuit back out. I think she's feeling almost like her old bossy self!

Thankyou me too! I feel far less worried now. She is currently having a nap under her hidey:<>

Any loving owner always feels bad when they discover something wrong with their piggies! The important thing is to act and not dither about seeing a vet. it takes some experience to learn to doscern between a life-and-death emergency, something that can wait until the next and something that an expereinced owner can take care of at home. If in doubt, I still see the vet rather too often than too little!

Strains are not all that rare in active and happy guinea pigs.

Thankyou Wiebke. I know I over worry, but I would rather that than not worry at all! She definitely seems happier tonight after her first dose. She's been bossing the other two about good and proper, poor things.

Sounds like she's on the mend! Always worth getting checked out, glad she's not done any serious damage, the pain killers sound like they've kicked in if she's back to her bossy self. lol
