well for awhile now the pigs woodshaving have been playing on my chest (they were in the bedroom) so few weeks ago i bought a hutch which is massive and there outside, i just feel kinda lonly without them looking at me in the bedroom :( although they love it outside i really worry about them :(

As it's a shame you had to move them outside. Could you switch to an alternative from sawdust? Megazorb or fleece?

newspaper, even tryed layer of woodshaving but it was the fleece that just stank so i gave up

Could you try again with mattress protectors or towels underneath?

might try that, the only thing is there happy outside now and i dont wanna ruin *** lol

I know what you mean about fleece. But are there often things you could try, like megazorb or carefresh, though they can be expensive, but what about newspaper and hay?

If they're happy outside now, maybe try moving them in in winter and using different bedding and see how it goes?

o yes in winter ill be bringing them back in, n I'm going to save to buy sum of that stuff you said, just hope it isnt too expensive. anyway I'm off to go cuddle my boys (pigs) xx

I'm glad they seem happy outside - we're thinking of moving our indoor boys out to a hutch and I am so worried they wouldn't be happy:( . Very reassuring that yours like it!

Towels under the fleece are really good, and I put a puppy pad underneath where they pee, they only pee in the one spot! It only really starts to smell when it time for a clean out so maybe you could try that xox

Aubiose is good :)

I used to use megazorb, but wasn't keen on the faint smell, but Aubiose has a lovely fresh smell. Plus I can pick it up locally - I used to have to pay P&P on megazorb, which almost doubled the price.

My six indoor pigs are on the thinner vet bed, with a thick layer of newspaper underneath it. The vet bed stays really dry and we don't notice any smell.

I can't compare this to fleece because my girls were thick with the fleece, they rucked it all up, chewed and pulled it out of place, went underneath and generally didn't play the game. mallethead :)p

My friend has hers indoors and when she sees mine outside she says "they're so happy outside, mine must be so unhappy, I've got to get them a run for outside" and I'm the opposite, I wish mine could be inside! I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I think piggies are happy outdoors too :)

Every spring when the weather gets better I pop my piggies in their outdoor hutch. Around October/November time I bring them back in to the indoor hutch and they get free roam of any room as long as they're supervised.

I would imagine you feel worse than your pigs! I feel badly that mine don't get regular outdoor time as they love their run on the grass when I'm at my parents but I don't have a lawn to put them on ):

A summer residence and a winter residence! Your piggies live the high life :) Do they go to Ascot or the Cannes Film Festival when they 'just need to get away from it all'? :))

You could make some cage liner's they fit like abed sheet so the piggies cant burrow under, i posted instructions here:

No one else has made them yet but i made mysis in laws and a friends store bought cage has been fitted completly matching liner tunnel's cuddle cup's all in pink and purple with white dot's

Thank you, I'll try that as my next batch of liners. For some reason they don't go under their vet bed or eat it or anything, luckily. I have given them tunnels and small fleece blankets to destroy. :))

I'm sure your piggies are more than happy, don't feel bad.
And, I can't help but thinking that a bed of woodshavings and hay is so much more natural than fleece. It allows piggies to forage and burrow, as they may want to do in the wild. You can't bury yourself in fleece! Don't get me wrong, I will bring my piggies in in the winter, but will be still in their hutch, and I'll put it in the conservatory so they can still have the natural bedding.

i have good luck with news papers and towels as liners. i change both the towels and paper every day, and spray their cage with a mixture of water and vinegar to deodorize. my dad has a nose like a bloodhound and always warned me to make sure they dont smell, and he hasn't complained yet!

wow thanks for all the replys i cleaned the pigs today outside and they loves running round the garden! we dont have no grass though but they do have patio which i find is good for their claws :)
