Feel so sorry for boars 😞

Cant blame him. Though i have to lock myself in the bathroom lol
Often Theo and piggy daddy have secret "guy time" after me and the lady piggies are asleep, with secret snacks, sometimes I catch them at it because I recognise piggy daddy's "Theo voice" then find him with Theo and a bag of salad hidden inside his jumper riding round on his beer belly :)

I've only ever had boars. My first pig was a boy and I wasn't sure about the vets ability to neuter so I played it safe and only had boars.

And it just continued even after I found a great vet. Boars are wonderful little (and not so little creatures), so full of personality.

I absolutely love boars! I've always had boars until the past couple of years where I have had 3 girls slowly included.

I must say I'm surprised everyone seems to notice how brave boars are as all but two of mine have been utter wimps. All 3 of my girls were brave, though one took a little while longer but my boars took forever. One enjoyed playing dead for a month before he stopped. It used to give me a heart attack. I'd never seen such a limp, heavy piggie before. He got me many times with that trick :)):))

But general personality I find my boys were always so hilarious to watch. They got up to so many antics. They will always hold that special spot in my heart. I don't think I can ever be without a boar :wub: The girls seem far more independent and less clingy to me than the boys.

I was deterred from buying a male guinea pig I had fallen in love with at the pet store (no rescues around here sadly) because boars smell a lot worse than sows so I bought sows instead which I don't regret but when we are in a bigger place I think I would like a couple of boars, obviously not living with my girls lol.

Yea ive had 3 boars and i have 1 sow. Currently i have my third boar and my first sow. All the boars smell . The sow just smells of lovely hay. I just see smelking as part of the boars character, they are funny

I find the sows get a bit smellier when they are in season though and need extra cage cleaning around then.

I think our boy Theo smells lovely, all my piggies smell nice except Jezebel floof who likes sleeping in the toilet tray and usually smells of wee :) the only time there's a slightly unpleasant smell is the night before cage clean days when things get a bit whiffy! And when 3 piggies sleep all night in the same fleecy house and none of them bother getting up to pee or poo...

I think that they only get bad press because of pet shops selling two 6 week olds with too small a change and no warning of hormones and potential fallouts. I can imagine if my first experience with pigs was two boys that got into a bloody fight I would be extremely nervous of getting any furthers. All my boys have been neutered though and lovely

I always used to have sows, until I got Boo, Pumpkin and Jack. (Then D'Hoffryn and Lorne, and Hector Plasm followed). Sadly I'm just left with Boo now, from my original trio, but recently bonded him with baby Sandy Claws. So I guess I will always have boars now :) I do love them so much. So much character, and so inquisitive. When choosing a rescue I would probably choose boars, because I know they are more likely to be over looked and also that lots of people do not really understand their requirements for space etc.

When my Finn starts to popcorn and runs around is when I smell his bum and it is the funniest. Whenever he hears noises he likes, he runs around excitdly popcorning around his cage. Pleasing noises for Finn would include refrigerator door, my voice, hay bag noise, pellets being poured into his food bowl and etc.
Finn is a lot funnier than Lara is. Finn seems to have a bigger personality although he is not as loud as Lara.

I really wish I had room to make a herd and add a boar! But, there are no rescues that have guinea pigs except the SPCA, and they don't neuter (only one vet were I live would do it and it would cost $700-$1,000 to do it). Boars are great!

I love boars too x

When I adopt more piggies (currently pigless right now!) they will definitely be boars. Tommy and Ronnie were lovely, cuddly pigs! Just found out that an amazing piggy rescue is close to me which is great news! It will be a while before I can have them again though as I have lots to prepare and want to sort some other stuff out first xx

Theo is very well trained by his ladies, but until he met the girls his previous experience of other guinea pigs was being bullied in a pet shop as a baby (he has very tattered ears) and until he came home with us his previous experience of humans was 5 weeks from hell spent living alone in his filthy cage with an awful family who shouted at him and argued with each other about his cage needing cleaning out. They were quite frank about this, the mother said she "couldnt stand listening to that bloody animal squeaking away in the other room sitting in his own sh*t while my daughter ignores it" :(
He's heart breakingly eager to please everyone and avoid conflict! Every tummy tickle from us or ear lick and snuggle from the ladies he popcorns about the place, he loves being told he's a "good boy" in a happy voice then he rolls on his back and squirms about and nuzzles us like a puppy :)
That made me very upset, how cold do you have to be to treat such a gentle creature like that? :(:(:(
So glad he's with you now

I've never met a piggy I didn't like but I must admit I've always prefered boars. They have such a bad reputation for getting along together it puts people off. I've only ever had one failed bonding and I'm looking at them as I type this lying each side of the cage divider with their noses touching, the twits can't bear to be out of each others sight but take lumps out of each other in the same cage! I love my boars, the older ones have mellowed with age and become so set in their ways they remind me of elderly humans. Meals must be served on the dot and furniture put back in the same place after cleaning or there's moaning 'till everything's put right.
