Lost fizz on saturday so have had to get pebbles a friend as she wasn't coping very well. Tried two different rescue pigs and she went for both of them. The lady that brought them to try with her suggested a baby as she is not very sociable. No baby girlsin local rescues so mum bought me one from a pet shop I trust. When I got home cuddled the baby (have called her poppy) and just cried because I want fizz. This having to replace one quickly is heartbreaking . She is gorgeous but fizz was a veey special girl

I'm so sorry you lost Fizz but can see that you needed to act quickly. Try not to think of her as a replacement for Fizz but the start of a new chapter for Pebbles. In time she will find her own little spot in your heart.

Big hugs, it is so hard I know. You aren't replacing Fizz, nothing could ever do that. You are just doing what is right for Pebbles and you will grow to love this new piggie in their own right. What you are feeling is all part of loss and natural. Huge hugs x x

Your never replacing the other piggy. Your simply doing what is best for the remaining one. Fizz wouldn't want you or Pebbles to be sad. She is always in your heart x

Thank you all for your comments.Am in tears again. I know she will worm her way in.She is a cuddle monster like fizz was.Only had fizz 3 months but she was very special, full of personality.

Oh I'm so sorry, but I know that you did the right thing for Pebbles. You are brave doing the best thing for your piggies!
Does Pebbles like Poppy?

x

It is natural you feel this way. You are still grieving and nobody can ever replace fizz. It just shows how much you loved her and how much you love pebbles to get her a friend.

thank you for this thread madguineapig lady.

I had three piggies together Pickle, Brosie and Chilli. Steve chose Chilli a couple of months ago, as we knew that Pickle was very ill and Brosie would need a friend. I didn't want to even think about it, so I was quite surprised when Steve actually said to me 'he wanted that guinea pig'! and we ended up with Chilli.

now I am more confused, because we thought Pickle would go first, as she is the oldest and has had a lot of health problems, but now Brosie has gone, I am not sure if I should start looking for a third pig again, so that when Pickle does go, Chilli will have a friend. Chilli is about 3 months old and pickle is 5 and half years.

I have found with my girls that if you have 3 together, it is a lot easier when one of them goes, because at least you still have 2 together

Hubby said get two but pebbles and poppy are so close now don't want to spoil it.Thy cuddle uo which is something I never saw her and fizz do so think I will just leave them as a duo.Have been offered a swiss sow but dont want one that looks too much like fizz either and also don't wan tone left out.Would love a husboar but don't know if I could deal with boy problems and boar glue in my peruvians fur.Rescue lady not sure if pebbles would accept one anyway, she is a bolshie girl

It is difficult when you have to deal with new piggies when you are not ready yet!

I would leave the two of them as they get on, but consider getting two (girls or girl and neutered boar) at a later point, preferably younger ones than you have, so the hierarchy is not threatened; and preferably a laid back, non-dominant husboar. It is all a matter of personalities... you just can never tell who clicks with whom until you see them together!

Personally, I find boar glue on longhair piggies easier to deal with (I have got 3 perus, 2 coronets and a peru cross living with a husboar) - you just cut off the offending bit. That said, incidents with my neutered boars are very rare, especially once they are past the hormonal months. ;)

Thanks for confirming what I thought.Their cage is 3x3 c&c and no space to expand.Have quartet in 5x3 so no room to expand as they have their own room so will kust keep the six.Have a cage spare for emergencies or if two need help and no rescue space
