I dropped Desmond and Dexter off at the vet's this morning. They were so excited at first when they were in the car but then their mood changed when we got into the vet and were surrounded by cats. I am so worried about the little men. They were absolutely petrified. I won't even know if they're ok until 3 today. Not gonna get any work done! Been reading all the neutering threads on here and I'm worried as some people say the pig's personality can change after the op... :-\

Re: Feeling guilty

Phone the vet and ask how they are. The vet wont mind.

Re: Feeling guilty

Hi, I had star neutered last year, before the op he was a cheeky chappie, and he was the same afterwards, didn't change him at all. He has sooo much more personality than my sows, who i love too, but star always comes to greet me and say hi, the girls don't they only want me at dinner time and cuddle time.
I'm sure your boys will be fine.
I am rehoming another male from the rspca, who i pick up on Saturday, he was neutered on the 9th and am waiting for 10 days to be up so he can come home, He seems to be a cheeky chappie too. CANT WAIT

Re: Feeling guilty

Thanks. Glad to hear Star didn't lose his cheekiness. My boys are both so full of personality, I'd hate them to change. Hope they don't hate me for putting them through it! The main thing is that they survive the op though I suppose. Just keeping everything crossed for them. Not long now til you pick up your new boy then. I hope he is recovering from his op well.

Thanks Nicky. I think they will be having op around about now so I'll wait an hour and then ring. x

Re: Feeling guilty

Good luck with the little fellas love :)
Awww give them lots of cuddles and treats and they'll be fine :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Now they'll be able to have lots of girl friends :) :) :) :)

Re: Feeling guilty

All the boars that I have known who have been neutered have just become more laid back after the operation, apart from that there has been no change whatsoever. Why are you getting them neutered? Let us know how they are. :)

Re: Feeling guilty

I'm getting Wilson neautered as soon as I have enough money :)
I'm already dreading the worst...
Be positive :) they will be fine! And they wont hate you :)

Re: Feeling guilty- update

Thanks for all the support guys. :smitten: Just got them home now. They have had a munch on some kale and seem ok but very subdued. Just so happy they're fine. They've been glued instead of stitches. Vet says 6 weeks before meeting ladies! and they have a little check up next week.

Feel well sorry for them though with their little shaved bits. They seem very confused as to what is going on with the towels and smaller cages.

AND, they are making some very strange noises... Can any one shed any light on this: They sound like they are purring like a cat. Not the usual rumblestrutty moise. It is very very low and sounds like a sort of snore or a buzzy bee. I've never heard any of my pigs do this efore and now they're both doing it. They can't see each other so I wonder if they're communicating? Usually they can get close to each other on the upper level but this has been removed during respite.
I just can't work it out. They seem ok and they're breathing ok... Is this normal?

Re: Feeling guilty

Unless I hear it for myself I can't say if it is normal. However, I think they are probably making this sound because they are slightly sore, I don't think it is anything to worry about, but you could always give your vets a quick call and ask. :)

Re: Feeling guilty

Thank you Cavy Crazy. you've given me lots of good advice and support recently. I think they are prob just sore. Will see how long it continues and ring the vets in the morning if I'm still concerned. They're a worry at times aren't they these little pigs?

Re: Feeling guilty

Tell me about it. I am one of the worst for worrying though, my vets know who is on the line before they even pick up. ;D

;D ;D

I am so glad theyre okay!
Poor boys... lost their but-cushions ;D

My boys don't trust me any more. After adopting them as unhandled pigs it took me a while to get to the point where they came to greet me and let me put my hands in the cage without running or hiding. Now, even when I go to put food in they back away. They must think I'm gonna take them to the nasty vets again to get more things cut off. :o

Aww don't worry, they'll soon remember. When I took Jack to have his extra toe removed he was not happy with me for a few days but then he realised that he wouldn't get to the parsley first if he didn't come to the front of the cage. Bribery works wonders >:D ;D

You're right. the way to a piggies heart is through their stomach! Desmond actually just popcorned when he saw me with the bag of timothy hay! only 24 hours since his op and he's popcorning at the sight of hay! Fantastic.

glad to hear everything is going ok for you and your lot! they'll soon remember who mummy is and b back wheeking for carrots!

how is moomin? hope she is doing well too x

Thank you. Oh they remember who gives them the food alright! sadly they also remember who took them on a scary journey to get their bits chopped :P

Moomin is fine thank you. She quite brave now but still a little rascal to pick up. I think she is lonely though so I can't wait til I can put her with Dexter or Desmond (whoever is the lucky fella.)
Glad to see Harry is making a speedy recovery. sounds like you've got a lovely little character there.x

Glad to hear all in all your guineas are alright. Give it another week or two and they will be back to how they were before the op and probably even more loving. O0
