I am feeling guilty for putting biscuit into the vet today to have him x rayed to check for stones, as he was constantly bleeding, if they find stones, they are going to operate to take them out.

They said this is high risk and he may die:0

Now I'm thinking have I done the right thing, can a guinea pig live with bladder stones and frequent blood loss or is this high risk op absolutely necessary?

thanksx

You have done the right thing hun.

In my opinion with how poorly my William was before he died (his kidney was inflamed and we think he was TRYING to pass a stone) the operation is the better option.

Hope all goes well x

Thank you, it's so difficult seeing thier little face when you leave them at te vets:(

I just didn't want to leave him passing blood he may be in pain as well and he was starting to look unwell yes the vet said I was doing the right thing but you do worry, sorry to hear about your piggiex

you have done the right thing. It might be risky but you are giving him a chance of a pain fee/more comfortable life. I am sure he will be glad to not be passing blood or living with stones.

oh gosh what a dilemma, i think the pain would be pretty bad but you will know if and when you need to take him again. I was told to watch for when they were trying to pee or pee and nothing was coming out as that means their bladder is not emptying and can infect or worse burst.

Keep a close eye on him xx

BIG HUG

You have done absolutely the right thing - untreated bladder stones often lead to a piggy dying in a very painful way; once they have a certain size, bladder stones won't go away on their own and the problem will only get worse amongst a lot of suffering from the affected piggy. With an operation, he will at least have a chance at making it! It very much all depends on where the stone is located in his bladder or ureter.

I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed for Biscuit.

PS: I had to put my own bladder stone girl Minx through two ops several years ago, so I know how you feel!

SORRY i read the post wrong, i thought you said you hadnt left him, I'm glad you have, the pain could be so bad if not seen to

Thank you so mch everyone I feel alot better especially when it comes from people who know and have knowledge:)

My first thought when I come out the vets upset was, ask someone on the GP forum they will offer good advice!

your right, he wouldn't have lived without an opx

You absolutely have done the right thing, please don't second guess yourself. Will keep everything crossed for Biscuit. Hope it goes well and Biscuit makes a speedy recovery and is home with you soon. *hugs*

i cant offer you any stone advice because i know nothing of it, but think about how painful a stone is for a human, and we're much bigger! i think you've done the right thing. pigs have a high pain tolerance, so just bc he doesnt show pain doesnt mean hes not experiencing any. good luck during surgery little pig. wheee are thinking of you! xx
