Hi everyone,

So, yesterday eve, I checked the weather forecast for the night and it said the temp would be 8 degrees (minimum), so I decided the piggies could stay in their outside hutch over night. I cleaned them out previously and they had a mound of fresh hay. They had a rain cover and a thick towel over the front of the hutch, so thought they'd be ok.... but it was sooo cold this morn! I feel terrible!

I heard Poppy cough earlier and now I'm panicking. She's been her usual self with no other symptoms, other than that 1 cough. I'll keep a close eye on her. My tinnitus is really playing up at the mo and I'm getting frustrated as I'm trying to listen to any changes in her breathing arrrgh!

Fingers crossed that they are ok. They're in over night now until it's a more stable temp. x

If she's been her usual self with no other symptoms she should be OK. Do they have a hidey in the hutch? They had a rain cover and a thick towel to keep the draft out as well as loads of hay to keep warm in. Mine are outside piggies and they were all OK over winter. I did have LOADS of hay in the hutch and they were covered with a blanket and an old kingsize duvet. No coughs, runny noses or anything. They did grow very thick insulating fur too

Aw thanks. Yes, they have a wooden house hidey and one piggy is a complete ball of fluff (Peruvian), they were cuddled up when I went out this morn :hug:I just feel bad for them as I hate feeling cold! ....I wonder if I could grow some insulating fur like that?!

It would be good wouldn't it. I know this sounds slightly strange.... I would like insulating fur on my feet as my feet get FREEZING cold even with my furry slippers on!

Your piggies will have been fine they cuddle up together for warmth. I take it they were in the hidey? then they would have been lovely and warm.

Ah, hello fellow tinnitus sufferer! *waves* Horrible isn't it? :( I use hearing aids which takes the edge off it.

As for your piggies, I wouldn't worry. it sounds like they were ok with the insulation they had, they probably cuddled up with each other in their cuddly :luv: The cough was probably your girl being a little too energetic with her brekky getting it down her throat ;) Don't worry, they'll be fine :) x

Hehe I feel your pain, I currently have a hot water bottle on my feet!

Hey Tim! Yes, it's horrid, mines not too bad most of the time, it's just when it's "oh so quiet" I hope they find a cure one day!

Poppy was eating when she coughed, so you're probably, hopefully right! Thank you

I get the tinnitus too, i'm deaf in my left ear and it's always that one.

It's coming on winter here next month but it's been raining and cold all week, I worry about if the oiggies can feel it even though they are indoor pigs. It's our first winter in this house and the piggies first winter so I am unprepared.

If they have lots of hay and and a hidey to snuggle up in they should be fine. As I said earlier in this thread mine grew very thick insulating fur to cope with the cold temperatures over winter in the UK. Mine are outside piggies and they were fine. They had loads of hay and a couple of hideys to keep them warm.
