Hi everyone....is this the correct product for IC?
https://www.amazon.com/Feliway-Cyst...&qid=1633864633&sprefix=Cystea,aps,190&sr=8-2

Our vet has only recommended Oxbow joint support tablets, which have 90 mg glucosamine. My piggie Buttercup has been on and off antibiotics for over a year, and now we’re trying just Metacam (.23ml once a day) for up to 2 weeks at a time during flares.

She’s almost 5 based on the rescue’s guess when surrendered. I'm sitting here listening to her making painful sounds and wish I could do more. She is also on potassium citrate and hydrocholorthiazide .25ml twice a day.

Yes, those are the capsules; they are a little higher in glucosamine. You can in first days of treatment or a flare up (up to a week) give one capsule content in the mornings and in the evenings (i.e. 2 ml of the water and capsule powder mix twice daily), then you go down to half a caspule (i.e. 1 ml of the water and capsule powder mix twice daily).

In my own experience with sterile IC, upping the glucosamine at first allows you get over the squeaky pees more quickly in the mild to medium cases whereas upping the metacam during flares has not made all that much difference in bringing a flare back under control.

Thank you so much. I'm struggling to find the confidence to follow this advice because I do find you very trustworthy.

When I first asked the vet about glucosamine, and she looked into it for me, she came back with saying the 90 mg daily was fine but anything more puts them at risk for bleeding issues (and since we have blood from the bladder, don't want to add to that).
I struggle with asking her again or accepting that she might have different info and going by what you guys all say. Because if I ask again and she says
no....get it? I just want to help my golden queen. ❣️

Sigh. Upping the metacam was going to be my next question :)

For now, I'm ordering the Feliway and will have till it arrives Tuesday to decide.

Thoughts on giving her two oxbow joint supports for a day or two? I have to check the bag for the calcium content..

Any glucosamine supplement will add calcium to the diet but by reducing the pellet intake to 1 tablespoon per piggy per day and filtering the water you are controlling the two largest sources of calcium in the food, so it balances out. Please be aware that a diet too low in calcium can also cause longer term health problems (including calcium issues), so it is all about the balance. Sterile IC in itself doesn't cause bladder stones so you do not have to worry about that as long as you keep the diet in the sweet spot area between too high and too low calcium with some higher calcium and trace element veg and herbs for long term health.

If it makes you feel better about it all, just double the Oxbow supplement for 2-3 days at the start of a flare to bring symptoms down; this will not cause any more bleeding but will go a long way to keeping your piggy comfortable.
