Hi. I have two 6month old female guinea pigs. Since I’ve had them they go through periods of rumble strutting. This usually lasts about 3 or 4 days. I’m not sure if that length of time is normal. Also this week for the first time I’ve seen one of them continuously chase and mount the other one. I know this is a way of establishing dominance or something but it’s getting pretty aggressive and the more submissive one keeps trying to get away. I’m worried there’s something wrong. Or maybe they aren’t getting along any more?

This could mean one of your sows is in season, or in other words in heat. Your sows are at the age when they start to be in season. This is usually harmless and the rumble strutting and mounting are normal. All of this behavior usually stops after a sow is no longer is season, but will start back up again when a piggie goes back in season. As long as there is no blood drawn, intense teeth chattering, lunging, and intense biting then you dont have to separate.

Ok. Thank you. I will keep and eye on them and make sure. I’ve made sure there are two of everything in the cage as well as I read this can help.

yea mine are almost year old and they still go thru a strong season, perhaps even stronger than the video in the guides lol, but after a while they kiss and make up and all is good. Their hormones should calm down at 14 months old, give or take and based on their personalities.

It will calm down as they get older! One of my pigs Lady Piggle used to have crazy hormonal seasons, from 4 months to 12 months old she was like a mental werewolf pig every time, humping and fighting everything, but now she's 17 months old she's just lovely and we can hardly tell when she's in season anymore :)
