Do females ever get neutered? I often hear about males being neutered (is neutered the right word? or is it spayed) LOL i dunno!
Thanks

females do get neutered sometimes but only normally when they need it for medical reasons. Some rescues neuter all there females though to stop breeding but it can be very dangerous if not with the right vet. Its more dangerous than a male neutering x

Ahh yes makes sense. I had both my cats done (one male one female) and of course the female was a bigger op.

Females tend to be castrated for medical reasons, such as untreatable ovarian cysts or prolapsed uterus. Males are more commonly castrated so they can live with an intact female without reproducing. As Lincoln'sMommy said, spaying a sow is much riskier than the surgery for boys, as it is more along the lines of abdominal surgery. With boys it's usually just a small incision and removal of an 'outer' part of the body.

Obviously any operation carries a risk, but neutering of males is less invasive and therefore less risky.

Spaying a sow is usually done for a medical reason, as has been said above, and not just to stop them breeding. For a sow it is an abdominal operation to remove the uterus and/or ovaries ... for a boar it is the removal of this testicles which basically are on the outer part of his body.

I have had three boars neutered in the past with no problems. I do have a fantastic vet though!
