Hey, i just wanted to ask a few questions as I'm not too sure on the answers.

I weigh my piggies every Monday, but i was just wondering how much per week they should be gaining (age range from 3-5months if this changes anything?)

At what age is a piggy classed as an adult?

As i have found different amounts in different sources what weight should an adult piggy be weighing?

Thankyou xx

hello,
there is no real set amount on what a piggie should gain as all grow at different rates,i know there is a minimal so someone will be able to help you out with that.
it depends on whether they are boys or girls but anywhere from 700gm-1600gm is very normal.x

They are all girls so I'm presuming this will be a little less than the boys?

I'm just wondering as all four are putting on weight each week but one seems to hog the food a little bit more and therefor becoming a little bit chunky lol.
xx

lol yeah i have 2 piggies Smokey and Bandit who are both exactly 5 months and Smokey is almost double the size altough Bandit is still very healthy i would just monitor the weights of the other girls and if you run into to much trouble you can do what i did add extra food bowls;)yeah that was more male weight i was predicting, females are just a little smaller ive heard of some sows being 700gm and some being 1400gm at adult weight it just depends on the piggy:)

The weight can differ a lot. As long as they all look healthy and get their food, you are OK. Most females end up between 900-1100g on average, but there are quite a few that weigh less!

I've just adopted 10 months old sisters. One is 150g heavier and looks a month older. She likes her food and her snuggles, even at that age - but the other is far more active, loves popcorning and runs the whole show. Littlle Nia doesn't eat less, but uses up a lot more calories throughout the day!

Well on Monday when I weighed them:

Blossom 565g (gained 57g!)
Daisy 408g (gained 52g)
Flower 377g (gained 23g)
Petal 511g (gained 42g)

Last week there was 1g in Daisy and Flower! Are those gainings OK? I dont want them to be too big haha. But from the adult weights you've given me they seem to be a long way off being adults.

The gained amounts have never fallen lower than 23g.

kept piggies all my life and never done weighing they have all done fine, always seem greedy little devils to me! especially where parsley is concerned.:)

Looks like they are growing well, as young happy piggies should!

They will slow down when they get towards one year old, with one last growth spurt afterwards. By 15 months they should have reached their adult weight and will keep that.

I weigh my adults only once a month; I just know by holding them whether they still weigh the same. If there is a change, they go on the scales!

that is your right although weighing can help you know when weight loss occurs therefore detecting illness quicker.its better to be safe than sorry x

While my lot were growing from babies/adolescents into adults, they generally put on 1oz a week. Sometimes they put on half an ounce, sometimes up to 3oz. Most of them stopped gaining/growing at 9-14 months.
