will it be ok to put guinea pigs in my living room in a big cage.just as i have 3 children is it can be loud in there at times will piggies be ok with this or will it stress them out a bit to much? we havent got any yet iam just researching.ive heard that guineas make great pets is this right? thankyou.rolleyes

Guinea pigs make brilliant pets...!
As long as they have hideys and a good size cage there's nothing wrong with keeping them in the living room... :)
I Don't know what rescues are local to you but if you wanted some pigs I highly Reccomend adopting...

We have ours in our living room, with 2 fairly noisy children, i think they just get used to the noise!
Its nice to have them where you can see them though and they can get lots of attention.
They make ideal family pets.

yeah atleast if they in living room they are been part of the family as nearly all of our time is spent i there.yes will put hidey house in for them. i just wasnt sure if they would be scared of noise.ha, i have looked at the rescues on here but none are near me as there is a couple of boys that i spotted but they are to far from me.:(

sorry should of asked about the hay.i dont like the smell of the p@h hay can you reccomend a hay that doesnt have to much of a strong smell or is that impossible?

mine are in the living room, my daughter has some in the class at school 24 five year olds! We had them for the christmas holidays and my daughter remarked that they are much more active at school!

oh really ok then so noise isnt a concern then if they cope with that many children.:(|)

There is a north east piggie rescue http://www.northeastguineapigrescue.co.uk/
If it is not easy for you to get to, you may be able to get help with transport. I would definitely recommend keeping guinea pigs in the living room, I have three children between 5 and 10 and the piggies get lots of attention and take the noise in their stride!

if you've got somewhere to store it, it's cheaper to buy a bale of hay. Here it's about £3.50 a bale. I don't have the room myself but my friend has horses so I buy a big black sack full off her for £1. much cheaper than P@H. I'm allergic to hay though, the dust more than the smell gets me, I can't say I've noticed a smell from the hay I use

Hi :)p

I have an issue with the smell of some hay too, makes my eyes and face itch and my nose run. I'm currenly using Oxbow Timothy hay, which does have a slight smell but its not too overpowering and so far I haven't had any reaction to it.

I remember asking the same question and one of the lovely people on the forum suggested poking a small hole in the bags and having a sniff before you buy it :)

Hi, I have two noisy children who often have friends round and my two piggies don't see phased at all, in fact they seem more nervous when it is just me in the house (on my day off) and I am being fairly quiet. They have a cage by the front window and seem happy enough to popcorn madly etc.

I get burgess Timothy Hay. The piggies seem t like it. It does smell but doesn't seem to set off my hayfever like bedding standard hay does.
