rolo currently has a uti his metcam and baytril since then his not touched his nuggets or his hay. He does go to the hay but not a lot but i heard this is good when they are on antibiotics 😊

Fibreplex is better if he has a digestive upset and is feeling off caused by antibiotics. A probiotic can help boost the good gut bacteria as antibiotics also kill those as well as the bad illness causing bacteria.

Make sure you have switched from the routine weekly weight checks to instead weighing him daily; every morning, as it’s the only way to gauge hay intake. If he isn’t eating enough hay, he will lose weight quickly and his gut will slow down so it is essential you step in with syringe feeding a recovery feed such as critical care. He will need at least 60ml per day of syringe feed - the daily weight checks are your guide as to whether he is being fed enough. He could need to be fed every two/three hours throughout the day

I personally think fibreplex is a better option.

One of our piggies, Loki 🌈, (who is no longer with us) absolutely would not take fibrplex, no matter how I tried. He would have Pro C in a little cucumber sandwich. I eventually switched him onto the protexin pro fibre, as he needed long term pro & pre biotics. We settled on 2 decent sized pellets a day- one in the morning & one in the evening, (they are quite crumbly so sometimes it was 3/4) which was enough for him. The vet told us to use our own judgement.

It’s advised to give probiotics at a different time to antibiotics, otherwise the antibiotics will kill off any good from the probiotics too.

I hope Rolo feels better soon.
