Hi there. My guinea pig ( Ginger) had an upper respiratory disease. I took her to my vet 2 times gave her antibiotic for 6 days. Then I had to take her back again cos it didn't work. After that my vet told me to take her to another vet who was more specialised for small animals. He gave another antibiotic to her for another 10 days. My question is I got the probiotics ( fibreplex) which is good and my guinea loves it, so how along I have to give her now after a long time antibiotic cure? All together was like 17days. If someone can give me an answer I would appreciate it. Thanks.

As long as appetite and weight are not impacted by the antibiotics, I would just give the one full course of fibreplex to make sure that the guts are OK. Any antibiotic will not just act on the 'bad' bacteria but also the 'good' bacteria in the guts that are crucial for digestion. This goes for humans as well as guinea pigs. Fibreplex is very good in that respect.

Please always weigh an ill guinea pig daily at the same time in the feeding cycle (like before their dinner or breakfast) instead of the regular weigh-in. The hay intake (which is making over 80% of the daily food intake) cannot be otherwise controlled.
