Hey all,

Firsly, I am looking for a vet I can get to, my issue being, I have NO car at the moment, and the busses are awful where I live.

I was attempting to introduce a young neutered male in with my two ladies, everything was going absolutely fine, they were eating, snoozing, so on so forth, talking to each other, he was a bit rumbly and following the ladies bums around as you'd expect a male to.

However, seemingly with out any warning (I was sat in the same room keeping an eye on them) Tabby, my older lady, 5 years old with ovarian cysts and the male started a fight.

Tabby sustained two injuries on her lip before I managed to separate them (stupidly, with my hands but I was more concerned with their safety not mine!) they aren't bleeding TOO heavily but they are bleeding a tiny bit, not enough to run down her face or anything they are just red. when I took a previous piggy to the vet for a similar injury they simply used a bit of glue and disinfectant and patched his lip back together.

What first aid can I provide? does anyone know what glue/disinfectant is piggy safe that I can get from a tesco if I can't find a near by vet prepared to take a drop in?

I'm not too worried, she's still happy to eat even with the two tears around her mouth and I managed to get a good look just now, doesn't seem too deep at all, just dont' want it getting infected or her opening the wound further.

IF it's a bad cut then she would need to go to the vets.

My two himi's had a fight and Wiebke said to bathe with warm salty water or hibiscrub, we did the salty water and he healed pretty fast, same as the other one (they both got injured).

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry that things didn't work out for your pair when it came to working out the dominance issue. Unfortunately, things can blow up VERY quickly sometimes; it only takes one signal exchange gone wrong.

You can get hibiscrub or sterile saline solution from your pharmacy for disinfecting. Or you can amke your own saline with mixing 1 teaspoon of salt into 1 pint/ 500 ml of boiled, cooled water.
Glueing/stitching is a surgical procedure and no DIY job!

I would however very strongly recommend to have any full-on bite checked by a vet, as there is always the risk of an abscess developing, which is much trickier to treat; there can be quite massive internal damage, especially in the sensitive mouth area. Even a local vet should be able to perform a check on any deep bites and if necessary prescribe a preventive antibiotic.

Please also have your hand seen, at least by a pharmacist or a nurse at your local gp.

They had Blood Stopper at Piggy Poo when we got our babies last week. Just noticed it because they were tending to 2 piggies that had just had a bit of a run-in, and they grabbed a tube of it off the shelf. If it's a bad cut I would definitely go to the vet, but if your store there has something like the Blood Stopper you may look into that. No advice really, hope your cutie is ok.

sorting out getting her booked in at one of our vets in walking/bus distance looks like it might be tomorrow however. Poop! Going to rinse it with some saline solution in the mean time, no idea why I didn't think of that! doh.

I'm fine, injury free I think it was just scratches I obtained when I plucked out the male. Tabby is almost acting like nothing happened now except occasionally chattering her teeth.

Please separate and abort any bonding. Once a serious tussle has happened, a bonding is not likely to work out in the long term. Once sows have made up their mind that a new pig is "not welcome", they do not change their mind. The teeth chattering is a clear sign that she upset and stressed.

I have separated them or they would be tearing each other apart, she's just alone with her usual buddy. The chattering has stopped now I put fresh hay in and she is focusing on that.
