I got 2 males 5 months ago from a pet shop, these lived together for a good 2 months until they started chattering, clicking and finally injured each other. One has little hole in his ear and the other had bite marks on his back with fur missing.
They now live side by side but I would.love to have them together. Has anyone been able to reintroduce fighting males and been successful?

Any advice welcome. I've heard neutering can help but then also read that it will not make a difference.
Can they be happy on their own, side by side?

I’m sorry to hear this

Unfortunately now they have had a fight and injured each other, it is clear they don’t like each other and aren’t compatible. It can sadly happen when they get to their teens, hormones hit and the need for dominance takes over.
Due to the incompatibility and disliking of each other, they won’t go back together. They don’t suddenly change their minds about each other and we would not recommend an attempt after they have injured each other. .

One of my boar pairs broke down with a fight after 9 weeks together. They were 18 weeks old at the time. They are 3.5 years old now and have lived side by side ever since.
One summer there was an incident where they got through the divider in their run. It lasted seconds but the fight was immediate, caused wounds and both required antibiotics. They were fine side by side in their normal cages up into that point but the incident in the run disrupted them for a while and they become very territorial even side by side. It took a while to calm them down again. This incident was accidental but it is also why I’d not try deliberately reintroducing piggies who had fought before.

Neutering does not make any difference to their ability to form a hierarchy or like each other. All it does it stop pregnancy. So neutering won’t mean you can put them back together but doing so would mean you can bond each with their own female in separate pairs should you wish to do so

It makes a lot of sense to neuter males if they are young and healthy, but as P&B says, their bond is definitely broken sadly. Then if you are in the situation of being left with a single piggy in the future he could be bonded with a sow and this is usually a very nice situation for boar piggies and sows. Otherwise, there are many of us on the forum with side by side intact boars who are living quite happily like this and seem perfectly content ❤🐾
