hi all, my boys started fighting earlier, really bad rolling around fighting, and I tried to seperate them as soon as I could (without me getting bitten too) Sausage took a large chunk out of truffle's ear and I was wondering what to do/or if I have done the right thing.

I took Truffle out and cleaned all the blood off him, and then cleaned his wound with salty water. I hope I did the right thing.

Sounds like you have done everything right so far.

Sadly now blood has been drawn you will probably have to keep the boys living apart. They really don't know what's good for them do they?

Have a look here for excellent information about boars

www.barmy4boars.co.uk

Just keep an eye on any wounds and keep them clean and dry. If there is any swelling, weeping etc they'll need to go off for some antibiotics from the vet.

This happened to me the other day, with two boars who have lived next door is a partitioned by wire cage for a year, wow thowing the towel in was a understatement, i had ripped lips which i could not go near for about half an hour, it took that long for the teeth clacking to stop,

they are little so and so's if you ask me, still love them ::)

:'( :'( oh dear, sorry to hear, you've done everything right, well done for cleaning him up sooo quickly O0
They can live happily beside each other but separated with a divider, hopefully you can organise something so they can still see each other and chat, i hope this works :)
<hugs> i bet you got a terrible fright poor thing :o

The same thing happened to me. I however did get bitten, painful is an understatement.

Johnsons sell a "veterinary wound powder" and "tea tree cream" these are good! One of my pigs got bitten really badly and he picked the scab off and there was puss underneath. I used the above and within a few days it had healed really well!

Awww sorry to hear they have had a falling out. I agree with everything that starshine has said and have nothing to add to it. I would just carry on with the salt and water solution personally and if you believe the wound does/has become infected get him to the vets. Keep us updated. O0

hi they have been separated and their wounds all look ok! When I separated them Charcoal was looking around for other piggies and kept running to the bars and chewing them.it was heart breaking, I don't want him to be unhappy :( I hope I've done the right thing.

Could anyone well me how much it is to get him neutured as I'd quite like to get him a girlfriend.

Jenn x

I believe you have done the right thing. It cost £45 to get a boar done in my area. I live near Heathrow Airport, so the veterinary treatment is quite expensive around here compared to other places. Basically it all depends where you live. :)

Depends on what vet you use. You will have to ask around asking different veterinary surgeries if they have done many operations/ neutering on guinea pigs and what their success rate is. Providing you get a good vet who is experienced with guineas the operation should be fine, but at the end of the day it is an operation and there are small risk. O0

and heres a close up of him looking cute :smitten:

I used my phone so sorry they're not so good.

(I hope they worked!)

Ouch, quite nasty. Just keep an eye on it to make sure an infection doesn't set in, it wouldn't do any harm to bath it once or twice a day with the salt and water solution. Do you know why they had a little fight? :)

it was the other two that were fighting and he just got in the way! I've been cleaning it twice a day, and its healing nicely without infection

Costs for neutering can vary considerably from vet to vet, our vet charges us about £35 (we are also near Heathrow airport), in the hands of an experienced vet the risks are minimal. In the hands of an inexperienced vets they are great. Could you contact a rescue near you and ask for a recomendation and a rough price.
