I’ve had my 2 guinea pigs for about a year now, they’re twin sisters and there’s never been a problem with them
I had a small 100cm cage from the pet shop for them, I upgraded them to a 2x3 C&C cage in April as I don’t have space for the 2x4 it was meant to be
About a month ago I noticed some bald patches and took them to the vets who said there was nothing wrong they were just barbering each other however now I’ve noticed one guinea pig with more bald spots so I got an extra hide as it was from fighting - today I noticed bleeding from under the nose area and they are acting as if they don’t like each other (teeth chattering, squealing, chasing) so I’ve separated them for the night one is in the old cage and one is in the new cage
Just wondering if it will be safe for me to reintroduce them tomorrow to see how they get on?

Yes, give them an evening to calm down. Re-introduce in a neutral space with lots of hay and no places where they can get cornered. Wonder if it would be good to get a vet check up, are these bald patches on both piggies or just one of them? Sometimes ovarian cysts can cause change in temperament and can lead to fighting, this is only a possibility so please don’t worry but should be considered, although they are still young, it tends to be older sows as a rule. Have you check there fur for lice, are they starching more than normal? have both got missing fur patches or one? have both turned aggressive or just one?
It would be very unlikely that they both had ovarian cysts x Probably more likely a strong season has caused the problem, see if they settled down

I’ve had them to the vet not too long ago and she said everything was fine this was when both of them had the same bald patches but in that area now hairs are growing back
One Guinea pig seems to be the more aggressive one starting the fights and the other one has the bald patches and now a little blood patch under her nose
Now that I’ve separated them they’re not coming out of their hides to eat or drink as much they’re just hiding away and laying down
I hope there is no ovarian cysts! :( I’ve always sensed from them that they don’t like each other very much both of them seem to want to be dominant, but until now there’s not been fighting

Aw, such a shame, you might try and re-introduce them today on neutral ground. Sometimes an injury can be a misplaced swipe but only you can ultimately decide that. Keep a keen eye on them and good luck x

Thank you for the help :) I don’t think the injury was a mistake as there was more than one they seemed to act differently without each other so I hope they’ve missed each other and now want to get along 😂
