Do you still have Saffron and her little son, think I recall he was moving on (probably not so small now either) ?/
Hey, I still have little Saffy and all her babies. She had two sows (Midnight and Magic), which have integrated into the herd well and a boar (Merlin), who is got on so well and bonded well with my lone boar, who i thought was going to end up alone as he was so aggressive with other boys. Her boyfriend rex 'Hadley' found a lovely new home and bonded well on first meeting with a little adolecent boar called Gilbert and he now lives in Cambridge.
Unfortunatly Saffy has some social issues with the herd. So much so that one point she stayed frozen in the corner of the C&C for nearly 4 hours. In the end enough was enough, she clearly doesnt enjoy the herd environment. So its either rehome her or get her a boyfriend i think. I'm searching for the right man for her first.
Gosh how do you keep so many together? Are herds easier to keep than two or three? In terms of fighting etc?
The herd generally seems very settled, i wouldnt say its any easier, or harder. I have a neutered boar in with my bunch and he usually keeps them well in order. We recently had a small tiff between sows who usually get on. One got a little nip on her nose, now all is well again, the ranking has been sorted. They are usually very peaceful group. I catch them often cleaning one anothers ears. As a general rule, introduce new pigs carefully, have a neutered boar to 'take charge' and give them plenty of space and food.
Gorgeous! Great video x) x) I tried to do a head count but lost track. How many do you have? They are all so cute!
I have 12 in total (at the moment)
- a herd of 9
- a pair of boars
- one lone sow (hopefully not for too long)
x.
Ps.I assure you they get fed plenty, which you probably all know. Greedy little munchkins.
