i got 2 guinea pigs yesterday apparently they are sisters (one is bigger than the other) but they have been with eachother since they were born.

I bought a tunnel for them and one sits in it but the other tried to get in and now its ended up with a biten ear 8.... I dont want to separate them because then they will never get on but i dont want to keep them together if they are going to fight.

Hello and welcome to the guinea pig forum:)

I would advise to either provide two tunnels or no tunnel at all.

If you can I would also sex them, heres a great website with photos you can compare to http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm

I have noticed with my girls they will have a little arguement for the pigloo, whilst in the first week of bonding I removed the pigloo and it stopped them from fighting over the same space :)

Good luck with your new girls, I would love to see some pictures of them;)

I have 2 sisters, they came to me from a rescue when they were about 10 months old. At the rescue they lived in a large group and got on fine, however a while after I got them home they started to fight, so I decided to separate them. They both now have a friend of their own, they can still have run time together but they don't get on in the hutch.

I took the tunnel away but sky (the little one) she keeps squeeking and i think its because shes scared but she keeps going back to her sisters side and wont move. I have replaced the tunnel with flannels and they seem to be ok. I'm just scared tomorrow when no one is in the house they fight and hurt each other.

first things first.... make sure there both girlies...
how bad is the bitten ear...?... blood drawn...?
i found that the boys used to fight in their cage... but since doubling there abount of space they no longer fight.... so how big is your cage...?
might be a thought to temperarily seperate them... i had to do this with my bonded boys...

good luck...!

Yeah there was blood on her ear not to much but still enough to upset me :( they havent eaten much and they havent really drank so i think they will be fine once they settle in. at the minute the cage is small i did a C+C one (made it myself) so my plans are to extend think i will have to do that sooner rather than later.

yeh... might be best to give them as much space as possible... :)
i know my boys cant stand being in a smaller space...
try giving them lots of food and hay to distact them... and stuff like cardbord tubes filled with a piece of fruit then pack it full of hay... it will keep them ocupied....
this is what i use for my lot... :)
just a thought really...
good luck...

could it be that they are just hungry and thurst and thats why lola is being like that? I'm hoping that in a couple of days when they settle down and get used to the surrowndings they will be fine.

I'm not too sure....
but its more than likely all the change has confused them slightly...
i'd give it a couple days and see from there...
the only thing i'd watch out for is a big fight where blood is drawn.... then i might concider seperating them....

good luck...!...

if your worried then maybe seperate them whilst your away untill things have calmed down...?
either that or give them two places to hide and lots of things to do... i.e. food and hay and stuff...

i dont really want to seperate them because iv heard people doing that and then they never get along again. I am going to do there cage nice for them tonight and hope for the best :...

Have you got any small cardboard boxes or anything else you can use as hidey holes? From what I have read on here it is best to have three hideys if you have two piggies :) Good luck with your new girlies xox

i have seperated my boys for a few days a couple times and never personally had an issue...

yeh... aslong as its not full on fights i'd let them sort it out... :)

fingers crossed it all goes well... :)

Well i put 2 flannels in there new room and put 2 boxes in they had abit of a restless night because the dog is still not sleeping so keeping everyone awake that will sort itself out.

I came in today from work and got Sky out the cage to make sure she was ok and she was as happy as anything, they seemed to have drank loads and ate so that is great and then Sky went back to sleep beside lola and they are fine now together so fingers crossed they sorted everything out.

I normally take them out when i come in from work and put them in there play pen but I'm not sure if thats upsetting them abit and as i just put them in there new cage yesterday i thought id let them settle down abit more.

I love my little girls :)

It can easily just be from overload with a new situation that one of the girls got a rip to her ear. If they are settling down OK now, then all is fine, but make sure that you provide everything in twos - food bowls as well.

It sounds like your girls are getting their bearings now. How big is their cage/hutch?
