For the last few weeks I have been cycling my tank fishlessly. I thought it was never going to come to an end but it has and we have our first 2 fish. Bolivian Rams. We also got 2 apple snails. The plan is to get 6 Emperor Tetra next weekend and a fortnight after that 5 Sterbai Cory.

Here a few pics

aww they are lovely, i love your tank to, i just spotted some very tiny baby baby fish in my tank :(|) i had to take away my big fish so it didnt eat them

my two rams are males, was told one of each would be better but the staff at maidenhead aquatics in Coatbridge didn't have a clue. Three staff were trying to guess then gave us what they said was one of each. We didn't get them from our local fish supplier because they only had two males. We took the fish and asked them to tell us the sex then bought the snails :)

Your tank looks lovely Sandra; I feel so proud of you for being so patient and cycling properly without fishies!

Thanks :) I'm a bit worried though because the nitrate is high and there was small amount of ammonia (between 0ppm and 0.25ppm) when I tested the water this afternoon.

I would do a water change - up to 50%, and then test again tomorrow. A small spike is normal when adding new fish. If unsure, double check with the guys on pfk - what is your actual nitrate reading?

Tested a short time ago and I think it's between 40 and 80. It's hard to tell sometimes with the colours.

Gorgeous! Even the snails are cute :)

I'd love fish someday.
