Finding a new partner for our 16 month old Boar

Hi

We had a pair of boars and sadly one of them died a fortnight ago, his partner is doing ok, active & eating but we would like to get him a new cage mate.

What are your thoughts on pairing him with a baby pig? Likelihood of it working out and any tips?

We are going to research some rescues and see if they can help us.

We’d appreciate some experienced views.

Don’t know if you are in the UK, but our recommended Rescue list offers boar dating where the piggie can choose a friend of his liking, which makes for a much more stable pairing than you choosing one for him. Age really doesn’t make any difference, it’s personality that counts.

Welcome to the forum.
So sorry for the loss of your boar.
The Rainbow Bridge thread is there if you would like to post a tribute to him.

When I lost one of a boar pair I opted to find sows for the surviving boar after having him neutered.
That worked well for me.

It’s an option if there’s no rescue with a suitable boar for you.
