Well as I've said before we've been overrun with mice so I made a horrible decision and have rehomed most of my guineapigs :'(

Lottie, Grace, Hugo and Hurley went via Kay at Bunnyhops Rescue to a friend of Kay's who I'm assured will give them a fantastic home and Kay will take me to visit them when I go down again

Arthur has gone to Niki, and has been bonded with Master Fitz and it's wonderful to see him settled with a fab piggy mum

So that leaves Fudge who was originally my son's pig so he can't be rehomed and it would break mine and his heart to do so. He's also outside alone now which obviously isn't good. I'm amending a large double hutch for him and am going to get a baby boar for him.

My question is where can I find a very young boar from if not a breeder? I am willing to go to a breeder if necessary to find him a baby friend but would rather get a rescue piggy. I do want a young boar though and am not willing to try him with an older boar - he's always been underweight and 'fragile' and although bright and alert I would be afraid of him coming out bottom if a fight ensued.

Any advice would be welcome and if anyone has an unexpected litter and would be willing to let me have a baby boar, please pm me :)

As you know I would advise you get another guinea pig from a rescue, many rescues have young/ baby boars, you will be offering a home to a guinea that needs it and you will feel better for rehoming a guinea pig rather then buying one. :)

I got my baby dandylion from a rescue and girls go far faster than blokes. You just have to time your calls right because once word get's out they're gone. Ring around even if it's not listed and ask them.

Gee you've had it rough love :(
Awww Fudge will really appreciate you getting him a friend :)

Thanks Glynis, it's been horrid but one day last week in the piggy room I killed more than 10 mice and outside I saw a group of babies playing on top of the hutches - fortunately most of them went into humane traps and we were able to release them down near the river. I have had mice running past me in the hall, living room, study and mouse poo in kitchen cupboards. The garden was overrun with them. The situation got so out of control but I have now got poison down in various parts and the only one that's still being taken is the one near the shed outside. Obviously this situation couldn't continue, and it wouldn't have been fair to put the girls who were longhaired outside. Now I'm down to two rabbit hutches and one piggy hutch so I'm going to remesh with a tiny holes mesh and hope this deters the mice again. It's been awful and heartbreaking to let my piggies go :'(

I am pro rescue but I do need a young baby for Fudge and in my experience most rescues tend to pair their babies off young. Also due to the mouse problem we're not putting another shed up as that's where they bred, so they would be outside in a hutch (I'm intending to build a shelter around them but it still won't be a shed) and most rescues won't rehome to that.

I will keep my eyes open as I need to amend the double hutch for them first so I have time, but if anyone has any unexpected babies born please let me know.

It might sound horrible but do you know anyone with working terriers or ferrets in you area? you could employ them to take care of the mice.

I could probably find someone living here but tbh I think they are mostly dead now. The poison has stopped being disturbed and there are no signs of activity. Main priority is to stop it happening again now, what's done is done and I'm going to concentrate on giving the pets I have left the best life I can

Hiya,

If you can't find one in the rescues then i know there are a few people on here with rescued pregnant guineas...maybe you could get in touch with them and see if it a possibility of having a baby from them?
