I’m feeling incredibly nervous (as well as excited) because tomorrow I’m taking Toffee to meet a possible new lady friend.

Since we lost Biscuit on 15th December he’s been doing ok on his own but the cage looks so empty with just him in it and he obviously needs piggy company so just after Christmas I contacted a couple of rescues. I didn’t expect a quick response but one of them sent me an application form to fill in, and after a bit of discussion they said they have two single females who might be suitable so Toffee’s going to meet them.

Just praying and keeping everything crossed that it all works out and he likes one of them and they like him 🙏 🤞

Good luck gorgeous Mr Toffee 🐹 fingers and paws all crossed here for you to woo yourself a wife'y later.

The girls want to know if you're going to take the gift of a handful of grass...
Wine & dine bonding guinea pig style  :))

Well Toffee is spending another night at the rescue. Apparently when he was first introduced to his prospective new lady friend he got rather... er... over excited and she wasn't very happy. There was a lot of teeth chattering and the lady from the rescue said she thought it best to separate them in case it escalated and try again the next day (today). She said this is often the case at this stage and she'd let me know how it went today but she hasn't been in touch and I feel it's a bit late to contact her now.

I'm feeling worried. Is there any chance it will still work out? How long does it normally take? I'm intending to contact the rescue tomorrow morning. Is that reasonable, or should I just wait to hear? I don't want to be a nuisance but I want to know what's happening. I'm missing my boy and I want him home.

(I want both of them - the sow they're trying to bond him with is beautiful and I so much want them to like each other.)

Any news? 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Sorry for not updating. I was just about to contact the rescue yesterday when I got a message from them: The second try went a bit better, they were planning to leave them together all day yesterday and if still going well they said they'd leave them together overnight and they could come home with me this morning. But I haven't heard anything yet this morning so I've just messaged them again...

I didn't realise it might take this long, I thought they would decide more or less straightaway if they liked each other or not  . I never stop learning with guinea pigs . The rescue is one of the forum recommended ones and the lady I spoke to was very nice so I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Aw, let’s hope it’s a big success 🤞

I'm delighted to say I brought Toffee home yesterday afternoon - with his new lady friend!

She's called Spice, she's 3.5yrs old and is tricolour - mainly ginger and white, with a patch of black around her left ear. She's very pretty :luv: (Well I think so anyway) She's very shy at the moment, only comes out of her hidey when I'm not around . As soon as I come into the room she dashes for cover again but it's very early days so I'm hoping once she's settled in this will improve. There's a little bit of chasing and squeaking going on but as far as I can tell it's pretty normal. The rescue said she has never lived with a boar before so I suppose it takes a bit of getting used to  She was previously living with her sister who sadly died and the owner didn't want to get another guinea pig so gave her up to the rescue.
