Umbrella was assessed by the vet on Monday. He got a clean bill of health and weighed in at 1kg compared to 750g three months ago ... so tomorrow he is going to be neutered.

I am going to worry so much that everything will be ok for him, but I trust my vet 110%.

I took some photos of Umbrella taken when I first got him to show the vet and the vet was very impressed at how fit and well he looked compared to when I started fostering him.. A very healthy guinea pig and in excellent condition, he said.

Please keep your fingers crossed for my little man!

All the best for Umbrella and some VERY impressed and happy ladies in his future - he's come such a long way!

Llewelyn sends him his sympathy!

Another of my fave forum boys! Good luck tomorrow handsome, make sure you tell mum to let us know how you are as soon as! Big kiss from me and wheeky vibes from my lot ;)

Good luck Umberella. Just think of all the fun you will have once its all over!

I remember him; he is a real sweetie. Loads of luck for the surgery.

Why is he called Umbrella?

Llewelyn is wishing Umbrella all the best and keeping his claws crassed for him today!

Why is he called Umbrella?

If you read the original thread he was very poorly at first and Goldie felt Rhianna's song lyrics were rather meaningful.

Goodluck Umbrella.

Louise (summerleaze) called him that originally as he was so thin and his ears looked huge...like an Umbrella! Hope the little guy is doing ok after his op?

Yes, absolutely right. Louise named him because his ears were huge compared to the size of his thin body as he had been so neglected prior to her rescuing him.

Thanks everyone. A quick update. Umbrella got on well with his operation.
He is a little sore down below and will be staying indoors with me overnight.

Louise pm'd me earlier (she is just so lovely!) asking how Umbrella got on as she was worried about him. I replied saying he was eating well, tired and had a windy tummy ... hubby is on nights so Umbrella will be a great like-for-like replacement! :)):)):))

Great news! glad he is eating ok etc...give him a head scratch from me ;)

Had to smile at the husband substitute comment! So pleased he's okay after the op, let's hope he's up and away soon, he'll thank you in the long run! ;)

I'm pleased ( and relieved ) he's back at home and will be keeping you company tonight ! He's gonna love it staying with mummy. I've been anxious all day too ! I've had to comfort eat two lemon cake slices and half a bag of Doritos !!

This boy is such a little poppet and Bev you've worked wonders on him. It seems like only yesterday he arrived looking so thin, frail and unloved, with him hiding under those enormous ears - I'm pleased he's grown into them now of course :)) but Umbrella still suits him! I shall always have a soft spot for him in my heart x)

Tonight though he'll be dreaming of all those sows he's going to be living with x)x)

Hugs from Aunty Louise x x x

awwwwwwww WOW I didn't realise he'd gained that much weight WELL DONE xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Welcome home Umbrella wont be long now and you'll be with your girlies x)x)x)x)x)

I'm so happy that Umbrella has come round well and is recovering.

Llewelyn sends hims a rumble to say that it's worth it for some lovely ladies...

Thanks everyone.

Umbrella is fine today. He was very happy to be returned to his hutch this morning. He run around and popcorned once or twice.

The vet said that when he was asleep they checked his teeth and his front teeth were not aligned as they should be, perhaps due to a calcium deficiency in early age. They clipped them but wanted me to be aware of this. Considering he has put on so much weight since March I am hoping that this won't be a problem.

He has his first post-operation check tomorrow at 9am.
