Finn and Lara live in separate cages but very close to each other. Lara was abandoned by my friend so I took her in and caged her separately from my boy Finn.
Here is their cage within a cage. They rotate constantly between the two cages. The bigger cage is 56 inches or 142cm in square shape and the smaller cage inside is about 40 inches or 101cm in length.

They always interact through the metal bars. I find them rubbing noses, kissing and communicating with each other.

I struggled with this myself whether to risk surgery for my boy Finn.
My story is that while I was searching for a roommate for my boy Finn, I was given Lara from a friend who no longer wanted Lara. I immediately got her a new cage, $100, and put her in a separate living area close to my boy Finn where they can interact with each other.

I then called my exotic vet and my exotic vet told me there is a chance my boy Finn won't come out of anesthesia. Unlike dogs and cats, guinea pigs have greater chance of not waking up after a surgery. In addition, Lara can't be put through a surgery to fix her unless she has medical condition that requires a surgery.

I decided against surgery, because I can't imagine myself risking my own boy Finn over an unnecessary surgery. I know I would be too traumatized and won't be able to recover if something happened to my boy Finn.

I have kept Finn and Lara separate but in close proximity to each other to interact for over 2 years. Hope this explains my situation.

I can Understand your thinking. Is it fair to risk loosing your pet when medically they don’t need that operation, it is a difficult one and if you couldn’t live with that decision if anything happened then you are wise keeping both of them exactly how they are now x

The new fleece beddings my seamstress sewed for me, and I have 4 of this same size.
I cut the materials to the sizes I want, and give it to my seamstress to sew then I end up with new fleece bedding.

These are roughly 1 X 2 feet and I have 4 total, of which 2 are currently being used. I have 2 of the rainbow, and 2 green so total of 4. These are in addition to numerous fleece beddings I have in different sizes.

I am very sad to report my Lara passed. I buried Lara in the backyard so she can always be with us even after crossing the rainbow bridge. Her grave is marked so both my Finn and I can see her whenever we need her. Needless to say, we miss her very much and she was loved. I know she is always with us, watching over us.

Lara was with me for 4 years, and with a friend before she came to live with us, so I believe she died of old age.
Finn, who was born in 2017 is roughly 5 years old now. I know Finn is getting old too, but after losing Lara, I’ve been thinking I don’t want to lose him too.

We miss you so much Lara. We love you, ❤️ 💗 💕

I’m so sorry you have lost beautiful Lara. She had a wonderful life with you and Finn ❤️

Thanks. I dug up 2 feet of soil in the backyard to bury Lara because I wanted her to be close to us. I am recovering from the trauma of her death and her funeral In the backyard.

It takes a while. I lost The Ever Beautiful Betsy not long ago and it's still hard.

Thanks for putting this on for me to read. Lara's grave too was slightly disturbed at the top when I returned the next day, so I put several heavy bricks over her grave. I figured I will remove the bricks when animals are no longer interested in her body.

I dug up the grave until I couldn't dig anymore and the ground was solid, which was about 2 feet deep. It was a very dark and rainy day, which made it even more sad. I put her favorite blanket, pellets, and Oxbow hay in her grave so she is surrounded by her favorite things.

Just talking about it brings tears to my eyes. It was very, very sad.

I had to rush Finn to the emergency due to his one watery eye. Dr. Jane prescribed Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment, which is to be administered twice a day for 7 days. Finn bit my finger while I was putting in the ointment medicine in his eye this morning, and I was bleeding heavily so I put alcohol then bandaged it up.

Dr. Jane said Finn's eye infection might have come from Bear, my new boy piggy so, I will be taking Bear in to see Dr. Jane also. Bear has been with us only for a couple of days and Finn has had a play-date with Bear for about an hour in the same cage.

Finn has had his 2nd dose of Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment prescribed by Dr. Jane, and I noticed today, there is no more white discharge. It is still droopy but there is no white discharge. I had to remove hardened white discharge from around his eye and hair, which is when Finn violently bit my finger. I bled a lot so I poured alcohol then bandaged it up.

He still has 6 more days to take the ointment medicine, 2X a day. It is a given he will try to bite me, but I hope I don't bleed as much.
